PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

For Questions about Aircraft Configuration and Seat Availability, please use this thread:

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

There is no J bucket exclusively for seat upgrades. That’s not how this works. There could be J1 D0 I0 and one person who has put in an upgrade request may get upgraded at the gate if the ticket remains unsold (ignoring no shows, missed connections, booking cancellations etc.)

U is the classic rewards fare bucket for J. For domestic (not international) if U seating is available an upgrade is confirmed immediately. As always you do need to wait till the booking is ticketed before putting in your request to make sure an upgrade goes into the queue properly.

The other J buckets indicate the loads for major fare classes. Availability in the cheaper fare classes such as anything in I or high D availability would indicate lots of seats available for purchase. The more seats available closer to the flight the more seats available for upgrades if they intend to fill the J cabin with upgrades (they may choose to leave some seats empty). J9 indicates at least 9 seats in the J bucket.

And, I might add, bear in mind that 9 is the most shown by EF - presumably as either it, or the airlines, or both, don't go to double digits.

For the OP's info, only 4 seats (out of 12 in Bus) have so far been sold. As an SG, I'd say you are in with a good chance.

Of course, the other way to approach this is to look at EF before you book to see which flights already have U bucket and then book a Red-E and get a definite UPG as soon as it tickets. ;)

Naturally, that usually means booking well ahead or being flexible with flights.

I always ensure both of those... Success rate=100%. :)

For the info of the OP, a morning indirect via MEL might have been attractive:

Thanks everyone, still no confirmation of upgrade for my upcoming trip to ADL - fingers crossed the upgrade comes through. Will update closer to flight departure.

Hi all,

We have a Cathay award flight in business booked via Qantas. CX 256 depart Mon 1 Aug at 20:10. This flight is no longer showing on the Cathay Website or Google ITA MAtrix search, but still shows confirmed on the "manage booking" section on the cathay website. Any ideas? If it was cancelled surely this would show up on Cathay "Manage Booking" page? Thanks in advance!

Could be a precursor to cancellation… ie the flight is withdrawn from sale. The actual cancellation may not occur until much later. It could be that CX is working through alternatives to offer affected pax.

Ok thanks,

Its a QF business rewards ticket, so I believe if the flight is cancelled they try and get you to your destination in whatever class, i.e. economy, or just refund the points!

Just some additional detail, below. All fare buckets on that flight/date showing 0 availability (no sales), and likely means it will be cancelled, together with the later flight that day. You will probably be contacted at some point about moving to another earlier CX, or maybe the BA flight:

That's awesome thanks.

I guess the query remains as to if QF as the ticketing entity puts you on a different flight in the same class.

I'd always assumed not if there wasn't reward inventory avaialble,

Thanks

In this case, Qantas issues the ticket as an agent for CX as the carrier, and so you are traveling under Cathay's conditions of carriage, which you can find linked here: https://www.cathaypacific.com/conte...ons-of-carriage-for-passengers-baggage-en.pdf .

Article 10 is where the content on Schedules & Cancellation of Flights is.
If you end up needing a refund [points + taxes], that's where QF would need to get back involved.

Cheers,
Matt.

Can someone check QF782 April 25th (PER to MEL)?

I just got switched to this flight from a different flight (QF784) since QF784 got cancelled, but it looks like QF782 isn't currently bookable.... I hope Qantas hasn't cancelled (or has zeroed out preparing to cancel) this flight too, because I can't seem to book it online...

Here you go. There's a couple zeroed.

Thanks. This isn't great news as I was planning to spend the whole day in Perth, which is not really possible when my only flight option is at 4:10pm (or 1:05pm if I want an A330). Also no award space on those two flights so if they do rebook me I suspect I might have to call up and try to get them to open up space for me (I'm booked on a Business Classic Award))

Not sure why Qantas would cancel my flight, then rebook me onto a flight that they would proceed to zero out the next day... sigh.

The system might automatically rebook people onto one of the more lightly booked flights so it’s probably not too surprising.

Yeah, I understand, I just wish they made all their changes at once so the system doesn't end up bouncing people from flight to flight to flight.

Hi Guys, what is the probability of my Business upgrade request going through on QF143 SYD-AKL on Monday 21 March? I'm currently on an X fare. Thank you :)
