PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Re: Seating Availability/Allocation/Configuration Help Desk

So I need to head to USA April next year, are there any days of the week that are lighter loaded than others? (Thus increasing the chances of getting an upgrade request through) on QF?

For example last month I flew LAX-MEL on a Thursday and the flight was packed, checking the sat/sun flights in the same week they didn't seem quiet as busy, suspect because people wanted the Thursday flight to get home by for the weekend.

Also what about routings, would one route be more likely to get an upgrade request through compared to another? MEL-LAX, SYD-LAX, BNE-LAX or SYD-DFW?

Since clever people have looked for you, could I also ask what are the chances for a points upgrade from premium to business, for a WP, on QF 93 jan 1st.

Thanks so much

Re: Chances of a points upgrade ?

Hi, Not sure if this is the right place to ask (if not could the mods pls move for me). Just trying to plan my US holiday in Dec/Jan 2014 and want to know if there are likely to be any Classic Award seats to fly back to Oz from Honolulu to Sydney towards the end of Jan. Or is it a blackout period for Classic Awards for this flight?

If anyone is able to shed any light on this I would appreciate it (or even point me in the right direction if there is somewhere I can go to look it up).

From what I have seen elsewhere the flight is on an older 767 with J seats that don't lie flat. If you are still keen on the flight, then start looking at availability now for the Dec flights and each day the availability will be available for one day further out. If there are seats for when you would like to fly, then book them as they may not be around long.

Still keen on the flight - would actually like to book 6 Y seats. When I searched to see if Dec 18 2013 was available it came up with a message that "There are no Award Seats between 02 January and 03 December". Which doesn't make sense as Dec 18 is not between those dates. Any idea what it going on?

Try Friday the 13th December (if you are not superstitious, that is). That is the latest date I can see.

Re: Chances of a points upgrade ?

For reward redemptions on Qantas flight numbers, see this thread as to when they become available:

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....c-awards-new-dates-what-46067.html#post734026

Today Dec 18th 2013 would have been loaded. It would be another month before later January shows up.

Note that not many award seats may be available for any particular flight/period, QF4 is notoriously difficult - especially 6 seats on the one flight.

Thanks everyone. Realised that the QF4 flight doesn't fly everyday which was why the last available was the 13th. Also when I put in just one person it showed more availability (so getting the 6 seats will definitely be a little tricky.) Hopefully we will be able to do a combination of Classic and Anytime to get our six seats.

We need six seats now as we have had twins in the last year which means four kids! Yikes! PS Will let you know what flights we do book so that everyone else can avoid us!!

Re: Chances of a points upgrade ?

Not very good at interpreting Expert Flyer

Have requested upgrades using points at time of booking about 6 weeks ago from PE to J for partner and myself on QF21 on 12th Jan. EF currently showing the following
J6 C5 D0 I0 U0 W6 R1 T1 Z0 Y9 B9 H9 K2 M2 L2 V2 S2 N0 Q0 O0 G0 X0 E0

Return flight 12 days later is
J3 D3 X3 I0 Y3 W4 E3 B3 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 G0

What chance do you think of getting the upgrade. Have had no advice to date. Current status is WP.

Regards

J is quite full on both flights, looks all cabins will have solid loadings but not entirely full. J and C are 'full-fare' buckets where D and more so I are used by discounted fares. So it would appear that there are 6 seats free on the first and 3 on the return. The Y3 X3 is pretty weird though.

A common thing is a high value in the I bucket will suggest lots of J availability so easy upgrade. However in recent months I've been upgrade even on very full flights, even more than yours. Not sure if this is a recent change but doing well as a WP. So I'd give it a low chance on the return since there are two of you but somewhat higher on the way up. Best not to never raise any expectations on QF upgrades!

Re: Chances of a points upgrade ?

It's "upgrade" season!

It's quite possible with the J6 and J3 is they actually may not have sold many Business fares on the flight but instead have sold some of that capacity for high value economy / premium economy fares. They then plan on granting points upgrade or even op up to fill those seats. (It's called "on-loading".)

Airlines can see every seat as sellable, for any fare ...

In my case all but two seats were allocated a few days out but I still got the UG. Was full onboard. But fundamentally yes, yield management is hedging on people using points to upgrade :@
Unfortunately the seat maps don't suggest much this far out - am I correct that non-status pax aren't pre-allocated in J?
