PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

I'm on QF29 MEL-HKG tomorrow, which is surprisingly showing as:

J/7 C/7 D/7 I/6 U/0

Y/0 B/0 H/0 K/0 M/0 L/0 V/0 S/0 N/0 Q/0 O/0 G/0 X/0 E/0

Is that common? When I was on QF30 on the way back there were plenty of empty seats on a Tuesday night. Is Wednesday normally busy for this route?

Unfortunately I'm on an O class ticket so no chance of a points upgrade. At least it's a day flight so sleep isn't too important.

Although when I go to check Select Seats on the QF portal, there seems to be a large number of unallocated seats - why is this?

At the moment I would try putting in for an upgrade as they seem to be allowing non upgradeable fares to be upgraded. Have just submitted requests for Mrs Ansett and I on flights that were previously not eligble. HURRY

Hi All - Just wondered what the loads were looking like for QF9 Mel - LHR on 3rd July? MEL -DXB and DXB - LHR? Chance of an op up on any leg?

Mine never allowed me to - it still won't now.

Re: Upgrade probability tomorrow

[WP]+[I9]-[13days]=Reasonably good chance you would be successful [with a little + for A8 (J->F upgrades freeing seats)]

For more see post #1 content as well as "Understanding ExpertFlyer" link therein.

Just for the record: upgrade to business confirmed :D

WIN!

Just wondering if anyone with access to Expert Flyer might be able to advise on the probability of a successful upgrade for 2 pax this Saturday on QF9 MEL - LHR from PE to J? One is WP, the other SG. Request was made several months ago. Thanks in advance.

Flight is chokers for the through trip!

Time of request has little to do with these things nowadays.

If you are both one the one booking, in an upgradable class then there is a slight chance. FWIW, 3 F and 2 J seats are unallocated.

hey all, don't fly too regularly but I'm in economy on QF51 Brisbane-Singapore on July 5 and was hoping to have an idea of how full the plane may be. Thanks if you can tell me

Rather empty, it appears! U9 at this stage is not good for QF.

In the middle of school holidays:shock: Doesn't bode well for their new Asian game plan.......wonder if the board are starting to look at AJ and asking themselves some tough questions.

Not to mention it is about one week from departure and there are plenty of deep-ish discount Y (N class) seats available.

Unrelated, and I could be going out on a limb, but there was the mention of buying a comfort seat (eg 2x Y seats) which could get you not only a guaranteed shadow but twice the number of SCs/points.
Imagine if you could get 8x JASA (in U class) comfort seats in addition to your JASA seat.. 9x 120 (1080) SCs for the one flight!!!
Add on 9x PE seats at (60 SC each) and you get 1620 SCs

Would you mind elaborating on why time of request has little effect, please Serfty? I presume higher status still trumps lower status but why wouldn't a high status FF making an early request be better positioned than an equal status FF who made a later request?

QF only 'officially' mentioned status as the defining parameter.

Everything else is just informed guesses AFAIK.

Were your thinking valid, how would you then balance an upgrade request from an 'early request' 1600SCs guy from a 'late request' 3500 SCs gal, as we all know QF - like all commercial units - likes to look after more valued clients.

Of course, we are talking about one level (WP) here for ease of discussion.

The permutation is mind boggling: number of SCs (? at time of request vs at time of upgrade), WP seniority (3 vs 7 yrs), number of QF flights so far this year etc....

There might be more to it and, like you, I love to know their secret formula.

Hi all, can someone explain what this means please? Is my flight going to be full or empty? It's not until Nov, so I should keep checking but what am I looking out for to know if empty or full?

Thx in advance.

Far too early to be drawing any useful conclusions. Look again about a fortnight out, then a prediction can be made with at least some level of confidence.

As a data point.

QF 52 from SIN to BNE on Wednesday night. Requested upgrade from PE for J.

Upgrade granted this morning at about T60.

Loading showing. SIN 7:55p → BNE 5:15a
J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 T9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L3 V5 S0 G0 E0

Also received an op-up on today's leg on QF5 from PE to J. Loading was showing everything as 0 except for J2 at T24.
