PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

Hi all

Just wondering if someone could let me know my chances of an upgrade to j for 2 pax. Only bronze with qc membership.

We are flying Sydney to Brisbane on Monday 22/7 Qf528. Thought I would use up some points and request an upgrade. It hasn't been confirmed yet so I am wondering if we have a chance of getting the upgrade.

We are flying down on 19/7 QF 515 but I haven't requested an upgrade for that flight. If the return flight is unlikely to get an upgrade I might consider putting in for the outward flight.

Thanks in advance

Re: Upgrade question

thanks ... so what does that mean ? When do the U buckets become available ?the flight is only 8 weeks away.

with the Z seats, does it mean there are 3 available ? when do they get allocated? why wouldnt they already allocate these to those who requested upgrades ? e.g. I requested upgrade to J with fallback to Y+ so why wouldnt they allocate me at least Y+ at this stage.

What I believe it's saying is that there is currently no option to purchase award seats in J using points, which means that right now there is also no upgrade availability to J using points. Things may change, and additional seats are possibly released from other J fare buckets (J,C,D,I) into 'U' ahead of the flight, depending on load and demand, however I won't pretend to suggest I know how that all works! The closer you get to departure with J remaining unsold, the more likelihood that an upgrade may still be possible, but nothing is ever certain.

With regard to a 'Z' (PE Award) allocation, you are not allocated any upgrade on international flights until closer to departure, as QF want to exhaust ALL other opportunities for making [more] money before doing that. Revenue seats first, then mixed revenue (ASAs) and Classic Awards. These are all confirmed travel class options. An upgrade request is just that - a request. It is only confirmed closer to departure - generally 24-48 hrs ahead, IME as SG. I'm about 50% on upgrade success over the years.

For me, on a daytime flight of around 7 hrs, and if you have the points/cash (taxes) to do it comfortably, I would rather confirm a PE seat using the Classic Award, then chance Y. Just remember that once you book the classic award, you can't request an upgrade again from that into J. That would only happen if there was cause for an op-up by QF... which is looking highly unlikely on the light load we see right now.

A note that QF domestic segments where the 'U' fare bucket contains inventory at the time of request should confirm immediately, for ticketed bookings. This is something I learned recently, courtesy of AFF :)

Hope this helps!

Cheers.

Re: Upgrade question

Many thanks, that is very helpful information and saved me lot of searching.

Is it possible to set up an alert somewhere which will inform whether any of the J fare buckets have been re-allocated to U bucket?

I would grateful if someone could check the loads for QF 10 on July 19. Currently 2 pax in PE with fingers crossed for upgrades to J.
Thanks in anticipation.

Re: International Upgrades - Improved Experience

Travelling PER-SIN on QF77 on 2 Aug. Current Flight Stats show J9 C9 D9 I9 U3. Booked Y and requested upgrade. Q. Is only the U class given upgrades from requests or do the other grades qualify as well?

I will finally be SG after this week's flights wife will be PS.

I thought high numbers in D and I also meant a good chance of the upgrade coming through, depending on numbers of higher status pax who have requested the same.

Re: International Upgrades - Improved Experience

Thanks, the next question would be - what kind of comp upgrades exist that notify the pax prior to T-48?
Space available and op-ups are done at check-in/boarding...

I guess a CL could have a comp upgrade prior to T-48.

Forget thie high D and I numbers in this case ... any U whatsoever this close to the flight means awards are currently available and business sales seems to have been really low.

I suspect the upgrade is likely, although it is still over two weeks away.

U0 means that there are no points upgrade award seats available at the moment. If you request the upgrade now you should be waitlisted and the upgrade, if succesful, will be confirmed later. I0 and D5 suggest that the J cabin is starting to fill up.

These are the loadings for your flight:

QF 528 SYD 1:05p → BNE 2:35p
J9 C9 D7 I0 U1 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V7 G0 E0

One upgrade available now and fairly light loadings.
You can always ask for an ODU at the Qantas club so arrive early if possible.
Good luck :)
