PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

I believe time matters within a status cohort, but not between cohorts. ...
I believe it is a rating something akin to PCV within status levels if not PCV itself.

Time of request did matter at some stage in the past but these days it would a very minor component of such a rating if at all.

This may be a bit too early still, but any indications of chances for an upgrade to J on QF11 SYD-LAX on 24 July? Seat map looks pretty full to me, but EF was still showing lots of availability last time.

What a pleasant coincidence - I was just about to ask for loading for this exact flight for First. Cheers

Sorry to be right in these circumstances but I thought it would be better to have realistic expectations.
I hate the feeling of disappointment at the airport.

someone seated behind us in 28k had been downgraded from Business and had a shadow so we were no chance

Hi can someone please tell me the J loadings on QF 651 dep 11.15 am BNE to PER on Tuesday 18 July. Even at T_80 cannot get an aisle seat. Thanks

Thank you! This gives me more hope than the seat map which doesn't even show 9 free seats in J!

Nice! I'm hoping there's a domino effect that makes it more likely for both of us... once you get the upgrade to F, then QF can take my points too for the J seat you left behind

Dear the kind members of AFF, could one of you help with the loading of QF11 SYD to LAX on 21/7 please. I asked this before but now it's crunch time to see if I can get a J seat via award upgrade as an SG. TIA.

QF doesn't provide the level of detail that we'd like to see on what affects upgrade chances so there's some things we can only speculate on like time the upgrade request was made relative to other requests, fare class (does upgrade from PE trump upgrade from Y, does Flex Y trump upgrade from Y saver?), amount of cash fare paid (does higher fare paid increase upgrade chance)? If time matters how does a solo upgrade request 10 days out compare with a request for a couple 100 days out?

Obviously if you request an upgrade after requests from your status tier have begun to be considered that may well have an impact e.g. if you're a P1 and request an upgrade less than a week out, other P1s may have already got successful upgrades reducing the pool of upgrades available.

Still quite open at this stage just 4 days out with D7/I3 a good indicator: F9 A6 J9 C7 D7 I3 W7 R0 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 G0 X9
Depends on the status of others in the queue though.

Lots of competition for upgrades to J. Less for upgrades to F.

Hi all,
I am travelling from Moscow SVO to MEL with wife and infant 17 Aug.
My business tickets are paid by employer but for rest of my family I plan to book economy tickets and then upgrade it into Business.
I is very efficient way to do it with Skyteam miles on Aeroflot flights in terms of mile/dollar value.
But because I am new to Australia I am note sure that this is the case with QF. I already can see that QFF is not as good as Aeroflot bonus as you can only request upgrade from Economy to Business on QF flight only, not on the rest of OneWorld partners, knowing that QF international network is very limited compare to SU. This already limits me from choosing flash CX105 service on new A350 to old QF30 on B747 :(

I wonder what else should I consider in my game with Qantas?
Classic Reward would cost me 60.000 mils + 145AUD for 1+infant (I need to transfer miles from my Qantas Gold onto wife's Bronze account)
Upgrade reward will be 1188AUD for Premium Economy Sale fare + 27,500 miles (+ 3900 miles to wife's Bronze and 60 status points, but is't not really considered as she is not flying much any way)
So I end up with around 1000AUD for 33000 miles.
Is it a good deal?
What are the chances for upgrade on QF30?
If people experienced with QF could reflect on this would appreciate it, thanks!

It is difficult if not impossible to speculate on the probability of an upgrade until you start talking about specific dates. Sorry.

yeah, that's why I quoted it in first line of my post)
it would be 17Aug HKG 20:10 - 07:40MEL QF30

Well, the flight looks very, very open. But, it is very early. About a week out you would have a better idea.

You say you would transfer points from your gold account to you wife's bronze account? Is that right? If you can, request the upgrade from your gold account, stands a slightly better chance.

Edit: just wondering if another member could check that loading? I've never seen a flight so open? I did it again, same result. Seems odd......

If it is available then yes or run the risk of wife and kids in Y with J. Upgrade lottery is way too risky in my opinion
