PLEASE INCLUDE DATE, FLIGHT NUMBER, ORIGIN & DESTINATION IN ALL REQUESTS
>>>> ADDED BY ADMIN (6 Sept 2010) <<<<

Background to this thread
We have noticed an increase in the posting of questions about seat availability on specific flights. These are all valid questions and we all appreciate the efforts our members go to to provide answers.

The only drawback is that our forums can become "cluttered" with specific questions about availability on specific flights. This tends to reduce the overall usability of our site.
We have therefore created this new consolidated thread where you can ask questions about seat availability on specific flights. Hopefully, this will reduce clutter and improve useability.

Guidelines for posting in this thread
Please post questions about availability of specific flights or upgrade probability in this new consolidated thread. Be sure to include the airline, flight number, date, origin and destination and any other relevant detail.

When answering questions, please include the original question. This will assist in readability and management of the thread.

Thanks!

See this thread for hints on how to read loadings:

If looking for, say Qantas points upgrades, look for A class for First, mid to high D or any I class for Business and any R for Premium Economy.

Look for the most expensive category of the cabin YOU are currently booked in as being sold out e.g. J0 to first, W0 to Business & Y0 to PE for increased op-up chances. Also, look for availability on the discount premium buckets (A, P, I, D, U, T & Z inventories).

Conversely, look for high numbers in the discount economy buckets (N, O, Q, E & X inventories) for reduced op-up chances.

Seat maps can be a VERY rough guide but note that just because a seat is not showing as allocated does not mean that seat hasn't been sold. Not everyone pre-selects seats.

Original thread title: update on QF93 on 12 sept

Appreciate it if someone could check EP for loadings.

When is a reasonable amount of time to start checking for remaining seats for potential (though already applied for) upgrades?

I imagine if I'm asking about flights in October the numbers now would be essentially meaningless considering there are 5 months to go.

Yes, not a lot of point in looking at availability until about 1-2 weeks out, as that is when numbers for revenue bookings might start to settle (more so for international flights), and then from a week out, upgrade processing starts to happen, in order of status. Assuming this is QF you’re talking about, that’s CL/WP1 from up to 7 days out, WP generally from 1-2 days out, and then all others usually in the final 24 hours, from what is left.

Cheers,
Matt.

Thanks Matt, it is QF9 in early October, so I'll set myself a reminder to come back here in mid-to-late September.

I'm not really expecting a result considering that this trip it is myself and my partner (I'm gold, she is bronze) and from what I've been told it is generally harder to seat two people than one but hope for the best I suppose. In the past I've had very good luck with upgrades but it has just been myself and I don't know enough about the algorithm to get a sense of if we're any shot at getting an upgrade from flexible economy with only one of us holding gold status.

Anyway, I'll worry about it in 4 and a bit months time

I was under the impression that Qantas processes upgrades separately even if you are travelling together. So you may be upgraded but your partner may be stuck in Y.

Nope - it's all, or nothing!

not sure about that if your on the same ticket.

My party of 3 was upgraded from Y to to Y+ even though I'm SG & other 2 pax NB & a non member.

Thanks dairyfloss for confirming.

Depending on when the first tranche of DSCs and some QF coded EK flights credit, I should hit WP before a flight which I've already requested an upgrade for me and Mrs excel - I'm currently gold, she is silver.

Can I trust the system to process us along with the WPs or should I cancel and resubmit the upgrade request?

I remember reading Princess Fiona's story in the P1 thread she'd been assured her request would be processed at her P1 priority, but wasn't. So in short, I wouldn't trust the system.

Ok cool, if I hit the mark before 24h out I'll cancel and resubmit. Appreciate your advice!
