Flybuys Targeted Bonus Promotions

I keep wondering who made a profit on my Coles transaction last Friday. Was it Coles or was it me?

I got $50 worth of groceries which is what I needed to qualify for week 4 of the 4 week promotion. I used $20 of flybuys dollars, some of which were earned from Coles bonus points and some earned from Target bonus points. I also used $20 worth of Coles gift cards which I won in a competition run by Cadbury and Coles. The balance was paid by Amex and I earned points(about 1% of the value of the purchase) which I then redeem for Coles gift cards. After checking my docket I realised I had been overcharged for one of the products and I got a $7 refund at the Customer Service desk.

If you interpret this in one way, you could say that I got $50 worth of groceries for $3.

One day later I converted 10,000 points into another $50 of flybuys dollars which I will use in several transactions this week and probably next week. That was my reward for the 4 week promotion.

I was reading the flybuys facebook page yesterday and it appears that another 4 week promotion is about to start. Unfortunately our family didn't get an offer this time.

After not ending up participating in the offer of $50 off or 10,000 points for spending $100 a week for 4 weeks, Coles has shown me some love:

[TD="align: left"] Hi RAM

Purchases for week 1 include a 9 day shopping week Sat 22 Aug to Sun 30 Aug 2015.

After your qualifying shop in week 4 your chosen reward will be loaded onto your flybuys card! Eligible Coles online orders must be delivered within the weekly dates to qualify.

So now the spend is down to $320 for a $50 reward. Using the 5% discounts lowers actual spend to $304 cost to me.

50/304 = 16.4% return.

Definitely getting better but will I spin the wheel one more time....

Coffee supplies are looking low, so are toilet rolls, shame about not being able to buy bus tickets though!

I got the same offer ($50 for 4 * $80) and will probably pass again. If only Coles sold OPAL cards I would probably have no reason to shop in Woollies again.

We were lucky enough again to get the spend $50 each week for a $50 worth of points reward. I guess that's a 25% reward again. We'll take that up. We didn't do a big shop at Coles this week at all and took up a couple of extra EDR offers instead. Week one of this 4 week promotion will still be going next Friday so that's when we'll make our first spend. We've still got some credit left on the last $50 reward from the previous 4 week promotion.

I came across an article on loyalty programs which mentions flybuys as still being very popular.

It doesn't specifically mention targeted offers but it says that members of loyalty programs like cash type rewards and exclusive offers. I found it to be interesting reading and it confirmed things I already thought were true.

Keep sending out the targeted offers flybuys and don't get rid of the flybuys dollars option.

I got an email today for the spend $50 x 4 for 10,000 points. Only thing is the first week ends this weekend!

I won't be home by then so no go.

$50 spend is quite low. These types of offers for me are usually around $90 or more.

I admit I was surprised at the spend. It is the same as an offer I completed successfully about a month ago. I was expecting it to go up.

Yes, the targets are very tricky at the moment. I got the same offer target again $50, for the 4 week promotion. I thought it would go up but I'm happy it didn't. The catch is that my docket deal total went up. I have a docket deal which I can use this Friday or next Friday for 1000 points for spending $60. I'll have to get $60 worth of stuff from Coles this Friday if I want to take up my weekly coupon, my week 1 of 4 offer and my docket deal. I should be able to do that this week as I haven't been spending much at Coles for the last few weeks but I don't want to continue spending at $60 per week.

I got the triple points one as well which I thought was rather unusual. I usually don't get any Coles email offers while I've got the 4 week email promotion offers. A weekly triple points coupon as well. It's a bit tricky to figure out. Do I do my big shop on the Wednesday or the Friday? I might get a good docket deal with my usual top up shop on the Wednesday which I would then combine with the other deals on my Friday shop. I might not have much time on Wednesday to do my $50 shop so perhaps I should wait until Friday anyway. I'm guessing Flybuys want me to do two big shops a week instead of my one shop of $50 and one shop of less than $10.

Triple points on my largest spend this Monday to Wednesday. After a few weeks away, I reckon that one will get used.

If you scroll down a few lines then I got a 5x points if you buy a Bunnings Gift card.

So I tried it out with a $100 gift card - interesting to see if it is triple x 5 times or triple plus 5 times!

My prediction is 1 base point per dollar for the gift card, 2 points per dollar bonus points for the triple points promotion and 4 points per dollar for the Bunnings gift card offer. The base points are only paid once so stacking the deals effectively makes it 7x points overall. Good luck. It seems a pretty good deal provided you know you are going to use the Bunnings gift card within a short time.

Rainbowgirl is correct. I bought a $100 Bunnings gift card on Sunday with a double points docket deal and ended up with 600 points.

Unfortunately I am! Hoping $100 will be more than enough...

I spent $168 on shopping including a $100 Bunnings gift card.

Points that posted were 168 standard and then 400 bonus and 136 bonus.

So the $100 Bunnings card was not included in the triple points calculation. So the worst case scenario, unfortunately.

Unfortunately (for us) the flybuys computers are rather good these days in that they apply the t&cs as published. For example Bunnings gift card won't count as spend in the current spend $xx for 4 weeks and collect $50. Fortunately Woollies computers are much less discerning.
