I understand the principle but don't agree with it...

To cheapen your product offering for a potential short term gain, in my mind is a very narrow view

One question is, do I cheapen the product to attract " new " customers who may or may not stay in the long run ( ie give away status ) or do I look after Gold and Platinum flyers with improved or "enhanced" ( in the right sense ) benefits that in the long run, retain the loyalty of customers so that they don't look elsewhere and provide products and services that encourage people to pursue higher status and higher spend. In turn this encourages non status passengers to improve their status as they perceive value in doing so..

In this situation, I don't think you sustain revenue growth by offering a loss leader on one hand and on the other, have some of your highest status customers not even wanting to maintain Platinum as Gold is close enough or some just requalifying as Platinum and redirecting further spend elsewhere.. I think you end up losing both ways.

For this offer, the Velocity password is requested via a page hosted by Velocity. flybuys does not have access to any of this information.

I got the email too. Am not sure it's work taking up the offer as I have no flights booked with Virgin within the next few months. In fact I have no flights booked with Virgin at all!

My Velocity account has already been updated online - that was quick!

I'm flying NZ and SQ next month and would like to be able to use their lounges. Anyone know if I can expect to receive a physical card?

FWIW, neither of these are specifically excluded in the T&Cs from the email that was sent out.

Haven't received the email unfortunately, perhaps because although memberships are linked I'm not the primary flybuys member in the household. As VA PS & QF SG, though, I'd be up for the challenge of converting Explore Gold to the real thing.

Well after all the problems we have had with velocity mrsdrron got that offer and I got an email asking if I want to upgrade my flight in a week's time.
Oh the irony.

linked accounts and applied, upgraded this morning
from silver to gold.

Hi Matt

You will get a new physical card mailed to you in the coming days. In the meantime, you can still enjoy the benefits without a physical card by providing your membership number.

flybuys and family pooled Status Credits both count towards maintaining for Explore Gold. Hope this is helpful.

Membership of QF and tier level is one of the sections in My Details of VFF. Suspect many don't update this if they ascend the QF tree but may be the method of targetting (for those below Gold on VFF).
