Thats what I am hoping. This is the downside to using my AA number - cant check the my bookings tab. But the lack of deduction of points is a sure indicator :(

Ah rookie mistake. If you want to upgrade using miles/vouchers/whatever using one FFP and credit the flight to another FFP, make sure the FFP you enter at booking is the one you are using to support the upgrade. Only once it has cleared switch to the other FFP. It isn't too late - you can ring up QF and get it changed over (or alternatively just put the upgrade request in over the phone).

BTW you can still view your booking using www.checkmytrip.com (need booking reference).

Yeah - I realised that after the booking etc. the problem comes though because I had my QF number in prior to my initial flight. Once that had upgraded ok I changed the number to AA - but what that does is change the whole booking. What I needed to do I think was change the FF number back again to QF and then change it on check in.

When I called QF though last week to check status they did say that the booking was still waitlisted. I think the problem is more that J is full already - I only saw 1 avaialable seat in J last week - so the hope has been forlorn for some time.

Ah well - this is my last flight for a while that wont be business class (except for the SYD-BNE rtn this weekend but thats only a little fligth).

I don't see any mistake there. Swapping FF numbers around increases the hassles given how many times they make mistakes putting AA numbers in and the priority of the upgrade is not affected by the number in the booking.

It is quite easy to see a QF booking online regardless of what FF number is in the booking by going to Bookings - Manage Your Booking - Flight Booking and using Amadeus reloc. This information is the same as seen under "my bookings" when a QF FF number is there

Thanks for that - I hadnt checked through the add a booking link - it clearly shows up the waitlisted upgrade :)

No, that is not the best way with QF upgrades and posting to AA account. Use the AA FF number in the booking. Call QF and request an upgrade using your QF FF account, and make sure they leave the AA FF number as the only one in the booking. The upgrade priority is based on the status of the QF account from which the points will be paid.

You can still check the upgrade status on-line at the QF FF website. Just go to My Bookings and enter the Amadeus Booking Reference and you last name. It will show the booking, provide the ability to request an upgrade and show the status of the upgrade.

To get the Amadeus booking reference number, just ask QF reservations.

Changing FF numbers can be a dangerous ploy and if the agent does not remove the QF number properly before entering the AA number you run the risk of mis-posting.

Once I have my Plat status this issue will go away for me. Currently as a non-status AA member I need to use my QF number to get the seats I want and then switch. This was evidenced with my bookings on BA WT+ - the seats only became available when I switched back from my AA number to my QF number. I am not now going to change that until check in and then I will check it carefully. If the US trip happens my plat status will happen a lot sooner as well and mid Oct all this will go away :)

Why wait intil check-in to change to the AA number? You have the seats allocated now, so no further need to have the QF number infecting the booking. As I pointed out, you can still look at the booking through QF's My Bookings page using the Amadeus Booking Reference number and your surname. You can even track the upgrade status using that method without having the QF FF number in the booking.

The only issue I see here is that the magic BA seating fairies may move the seats around as they have been known to do at times. If the wrong status is in the booking, then the desired seats may be lost.

Becuase I have to phone the BA desk rather than Qantas and I am in NZ this week so will probably do it when I get back. Easier to put it off and youo never know i might have to cancel the flights anyway.... what with the coup and everything

I value correct points/miles postin more than a BA seating pre-allocation. I would consider the BA seating change a lower risk than the mis-posting of points. But my priority and risk analysis may well be different to yours. Just want to make sure you are making an informed decision, which is seems you have done.

The status loss is v unlikely to lead to loss of seating allocation; QF Gold and AA nobody get access to the same seating ( other than that the availability to pre-allocate for a nobody will disappear when the basic threshold is reached ) so there is no reason for it to be moved

I agree with NM that the risk of points misposting is a much higher risk than the risk that the seat assignment might change without a sapphire status

Not quite ... Qantas allow QF QP as well as QF PS and above access to the 'premium' rows of the WHY cabin on International flights.

The AA nobody has to take their chances with QF NB and all other nufin nufin's.

That is true, but the person is flying on BA , which is what I was referring to.

Sadly the upgrade didnt come through - but the flight was surprisingly good - Xmen 3 on the movie (kind of an Xmen fan so that was ok), very good staff - they ctually asked teh recliner in fornt to sit up so I could eat my dinner :) and gave me a second beer :) :)

Checkin chick was shocking though (apart from moving me up from 26 to 24 - although 26 had a window rather than a wall) forgot priority baggage tags until reminded and didnt see my QF gold card on the desk as she began to charge for excess baggage....
