I must have missed something - what is the "competition" prize - they choose your name(s)? No real prize, assign all rights etc to QF (in the fine print at the bottom of the linked page).

/Cynicism on/
Sounds like a free publicity attempt from QF

Well obvs.

on a more serious note, my Pick of Australian of the century is Sir Edward Dunlop, affectionately known as "weary" anyone who doesn't know of this amazing man, skilled Physician, War Hero and sportsman, needs to take some time out. so my Pick for a name would be "Weary" But maybe that would be lost on many of our younger generation.

But is that an Australian icon?

Hasn't Vegemite been foreign owned for a number of years?

Weary works. Because that's exactly how passengers will feel when they get off the PER-LHR flight.

So that's one vote for Darryl Kerrigan, then?

In fact, I think that's the fleet sorted:

  • Darryl Kerrigan
  • Sal Kerrigan
  • Dale Kerrigan
  • Steve Kerrigan
  • Wayne Kerrigan
  • Tracey Petropoulous
  • Dennis Denuto
  • Lawrence Hammill QC,

What about Farouk??? Fighter bomber plane?

Unless they name one "juddles" I couldn't give a flying hoot what they name them.

What about Farouk??? Fighter bomber plane?

I did think that through - possibly a lot more than the topic deserved (!), and thought the Kerrigans all get a nod first up, and that left two spots.

DD had to get tapped - because it's "the vibe" (just ask Cory), and Bud Tingwell is about as iconic as John Mellion and Jack Thompson, so he took the last slot.

I don't need the fame so if anyone wants to submit a name for AFF my choices include-
Kath Walker-indigenous poet and a major campaigner for the 1967 referendum.
Elizabeth Blackburn-a Tasmanian but also winner of the 2009 Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine. The first Australian woman to win a Nobel prize and the only Tasmanian to do so.
Currently Director of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies.
And she should appeal to many here as she was dismissed by George W from the President's Council on Bioethics.

Hasn't Vegemite been foreign owned for a number of years?.

Yes but soon if not already back in Australian hands owned by Bega cheese

Besides ownership doesn't make it any less of an Australian Icon anyway.
