For the IT gurus [Network routing issue to AFF]

A couple of us have raised tickets with ABB, so we'll see what happens. Cheers.

I notice it's now routing via telstra and comcast, but it looks like it's still not working. Perhaps it's being actively worked on though.
What we can't see, and which is probably the issue, is the routing in the reverse direction.
I could pass along a couple of relevant IPs to do a traceroute from the server if anyone with access wanted....

Happy to send mine as a working host on AussieBB also.

Don't you love AFF. It's now my go to for most questions

I’ve been watching this thread for a few days and it seems to me there are only two related issues. A. The problem is not of your making so there’s nothing you can do at your end to directly resolve the issue. and B. The problem lies with your ISP or local NBN etc routers blocking or failing for a specific set of ip addresss that are at or on the route to AFF. The trace routes above seem to confirm that (although some intermediate routers these days don’t always respond to the TR ping.)

Maybe some overzealous ip blocks resulting from some copyright infringement warrant.

From here in Lake Garda, Italy and 3-4 days ago I read all my emailed articles from AFF, and then clicked on the AFF app and got an immediate result. About half an hour ago, I again tried thru they app, to be met by something new, initially was being asked did I want to do some ads, eventually obtained a login icon which I completed. The screen just sat there doing nothing, and I eventually hit the 3 bars TLHC which gave me around 6-7 headings to choose from, and was then able to get access. Will exit the app and see if something different comes up.

Back again, same error occurring, not going directly to the web site thru the app. Am using an iPad on WiFi in my hotel if that info is of any import to the IT gurus...

I'm with Aussie Broadband FTTB NBN and this same issue started occurring for me on Thursday evening.

I could resolve australianfrequentflyer.com.au but was unable to ping it, and traceroutes were blackholing around hop 14 at the Comcast handoff. This only occurred on my ABB connection, other connections or through a tunnel worked fine.

ABB looking glass was taking the same route into Comcast but pings were working, so I concluded there was probably a block in place on my IP range.

Called ABB today and explained the issue, asked them to assign me a new public IP in a completely different range. New IP came through about 15 minutes later and fixed the issue.

Old IP was 202.153.215.x
New IP is 180.150.65.x

If you want to call them and reference my fault, my ticket number was #4593653.

Given the number of people with the same issue it sounds like 202.153.x.x may be blocked.

What app are you referring to? Firefox? Chrome? Safari? Other web browser?

My IP was already in that address range.....

And me. WAN IP4 address 180.150.xx_.xx_.
I lodged my ticket with ABB on Friday. I commented on Whirlpool in its dedicated thread. They are aware of it as a couple of the ISP reps have commented.

I’ll have to do it the old fashioned way and ring them.

Have you tried accessing the website via its IP address?

Ping the website by name “Australianfrequentflyer dot com” to get the IP address

Then http:// the IP address

Does this work?

Turn off Antivirus software

If you can access website via VPN - I wonder if this is a OSX firewall issue.

Delete browsing history

Power cycling Router

Otherwise..

Delete this system file ( backup first):
/Library/Preferences/Systemconfiguration

Then power cycle the Mac. OSX will recreate the folder with default config settings

WRT. IMHO. None of this will help. It’s an NBN or ISP issue blocking or failing on the ip range for AFF.

Im with Aussie Broadband and ive had zero issues accessing the site from my tablet (using chrome on android) nor using chrome on my windows laptop both connected to aussie over wifi. Not using vpn on my tablet, but was connected to my office vpn on the laptop.

Trust me, it's not a DNS issue, an NBN issue, a firewall issue, or an Antivirus issue. Unless you want to have Aussie Broadband assign you a new IP, we all just have to wait for them to sort it out.
To save more posts suggesting these as issues:
  • DNS - I can ping from one Linux machines on one ABB connection, and not from another. Both have it resolve to the same IP
  • NBN - getting a new IP from ABB has resolved the issue for at least one person. It's possible there's something weird and tricky going on, but unlikely to have mostly affected AFF
  • Firewall, Antivirus - again, the Linux example above tells me it's not that
