For the IT gurus [Network routing issue to AFF]

So? What technical info have you been given which explains the blocking of AFF IP address? This would immensely help those affected, especially when the situation happens again and they have to talk to tech support at ABB.

It's not ABB blocking AFF. More likely AFF's hosts (or upstream provider) having issues routing traffic back to certain ABB ranges.

None!

ABB people are talking to AFF's ISP/Host people.

It does show the problem tickets raised on this issue by AFF members have set wheels in motion

I’m not sure on that. Please provide evidence.

Without further info we do not know. That’s the point.:)

Why do you think ABB would be reaching out to AFF host if ABB were blocking it on their end?

The ABB looking glass works fine. My ABB connection at home works fine (after a reip). Only certain ranges are affected. If it were a block on ABB's end, I wouldn't expect any of these to be true.

FWIW I am at the Melbourne Park Hyatt and using their wifi I am having about a 30% success rate in accessing AFF. Often a refresh fixed the "unable to connect".

I have put my device back to Optus LTE and there have been no issues.

I may ask the hotel who their ISP is.

Don’t know. But surely they do? More information is needed.

They contacted me yesterday, and said that they had been able to duplicate the problem, and were working on it. Interesting to hear they're talking to AFF. Most other ISPs, I'd still be talking to their foreign support, who are all called Bruce.

Sorry...

Wasif was my help desk guy (presumably a guy).
If this was Telstra they'd be persistant with it being at our end and would be telling us to reboot our modems, our computers and to reinstall Windows (or OSX), anything but actually doing anything to help.

Anyway, it's all good, again...

Just confirming that ABB did indeed contact me yesterday about the problem. (Prior to that they actually took the initiative and traced down and then contacted the datacentre where our server is located, who couldn't help.)

The technical stuff was way over my head, but I put them in touch with our server administrator. I know the two then spent a few hours diagnosing the problem, and I believe it is now resolved. If you are still having issues, please post here or contact me directly.

Apologies for any inconvenience, but I don't believe the problem was related to anything which AFF was in control of.

PS. I must say that I'm pretty impressed with ABB's service. Might look into using them myself!

Thanks, Admin. The problem was not only with AFF, but also, from my end, at least, a motorbike site called Netrider. Same thing happening with timeouts. Both AFF and Netrider are working again from home.

I've been with Aussie since they were called Wideband and they first installed their own DSLAMs in the local exchange back in 2006. I know Phil personally, and the guy and his team are very much customer focused. My wife wanted our daughter to hook up with him, but she chose an engineer, instead....

Those trace routes us technical people have been asking for. They clearly show (if you know how to read them) that the blockage is pretty close to the hosting provider of AFF.

Given it's now happened a few times, and apparently only from one network, my money would be on some sort of automated security system being overzealous, something like an "intrusion prevention system". Thus the reason why they have been able to fix it just for the link to again go down.

Their support is awesome. I had an ongoing line fault (with NBN) that my previous ISP was unable to get fixed - NBN love to use any excuse to blame the end user and close off a fault report, and my previous ISP would simply pass that on.

After moving to AussieBB NBN kept trying to pull the same tricks, but Aussie reopened the ticket, escalated, then phoned me to let me know they'd done it.

Shortly after a technician turned up and fixed the line (corroded joint in my lead-in pit) and also noticed I was connected to a faulty "port" on my node so organised to get that swapped.

I'm on Aussie BB too, and have found their service to be the best that I've used.

For unlimited NBN:

25/5 $75
50/20 $79
100/40 $99

I've even used their IPv6 tunnel on my Ubiquiti Unifi USG Pro.

When I've needed to contact support, because of NBN issues, they've always been extremely proactive.

Yesterday I signed up for their 100/40 plan. Will be connected in 2 weeks, I am told.

PS. If you wanna save a few bucks, signup online using code WHIRLY10 and get $10 off for the 1st 6 months. I think this only applies to new customers.

Just following up on my earlier post. The technician arrived as scheduled. Within an hour or so I was up and running with superfast access!! No complaints - great service and I have no hesitation in recommending ABB.

(Now to wait for my landline to be ported over so I can cancel my old TPG ADSL account).
