For those who have been comped status

Little chance of an explicit clarification from RedRoo given that it's an unstated benefit anyway. But removal of soft landings wouldn't be in the least bit surprising given recent precedent at QF, and nor would it be without precedent in other programs.

I know of at least one loyalty program that does NOT have a soft landing which will be introducing one later this year.

And is it run by current Qantas management?

Let's face it any changes to the FF program are made by QFF senior execs and most likely not from Qantas.

When you are running in a duopoly it's not difficult to tout having "great brand loyalty, superior engagement" and "over 10 million members". This gives you great leverage to tighten the screws from every angle.
In saying that I think a hybrid soft landing system could be beneficial (yes even for FF members) if executed correctly.

I'm not saying anything about the sensibility of the soft landing being abandoned, just the likelihood.

You are giving them ideas for enhancements again :!:

Too much credit.

Makes sense - only a matter of time.

If the soft landing goes away I can understand why..

The loss of the soft landing whilst not unexpected

As a soft landing has never been an 'official' QF policy, no one should be unhappy (in any way) if they are awarded the status they actually earned

Took me a little while to work it out last night but have been comped WP for next year a month out..

In previous years is been 6 - 7 weeks out where the first wave of those who are being "comped" another year of status find out. More recently it's been closer to the end of the prior month (4-5 weeks).

This becomes apparent, firstly online, where your assessment date extends another year and, secondly, with the arrival in the mail of the new QFF membership card shown a date some 13-14 months hence.

I have just been given complimentary WP status for next year. My year ends on 31 August, and am currently 5 SCs short. In the last week or so my online reassessment date has changed to 31 August 2015.

I will actually make the 1200 SC mark anyway - SYD-BNE return next week will give me an extra 20 SCs.

I was comped WP 3 years ago when I was around 200 SC's short 8 weeks out, however my bookings before the end the the membership year had me 300 SC's over the threshold...

Hi guys, hope this isn't too OT for this thread, but...
I qualified for Gold last year (750scs) with around 7 months of active flying. My year ends 31-oct and probably gonna end up at around 1200-1300SCs. 90% of flights have been QF with a splash of CX recently (which obviously sucks post 1-July in cattle class).
Am I any chance of WP status?! Now the JASAs are done I'm not sure that paying for a 200scs run out of my own pocket is really worth the $. Has anyone in a similar situation been on the receiving end of some qff generosity? :p
cheers!

Sorry but it is very rare to get a comp to attain status.

Absolutely - other than employer based targeting, I cannot recall coming across any anecdote of someone being 'comped' Platinum QFF status without attaining the required SC's and eligible flights.

Quite happy to report back my status reassessment date had been changed to 30 Sep 2015 now

Still at 660SC and 2 qualifying flights!

I've been checking my profile daily, sitting on 230SC with a Sept 30 2014 assessment date.

Figure a comp is a longshot; I've been WP for 3 years, averaging 1400SC per year.

I think my SC earned last status year probably brought me over the line for this status comp. My 3 years average worked out to be 1,420 SC. Wasn't expecting a comp but definitely hoping for one. I was still trying to find time to take the 2 qualifying flights but figured that can be deferred for now.

In relation to soft landing changes, glad I reached the LTG mark a few years ago!

That is a huge bombshell.

Gun. Foot. Shoot....

I don't know that it's a bombshell but you're right about the foot-shooting. Qantas International has abandoned Adelaide and in any case I don't want to travel via the middle east. So far I've retained gold thanks to Cathay and Finnair. This will disappear now and as I'm already lifetime silver and qantas club, there is zero incentive to use Qantas and little even for Oneworld, although I do like the aforementioned airlines.
