Depends on the airline but it's based on ex tax spend, in the case of Australian airlines it's AUD when staying Australia.
Thanks. So if I stayed at the Crowne plaza which was $120 USD per night ex GST, what is the formula?
Exactly what you mentioned earlier. It is (10 x USD spend - GST) + Priority club status bonus + bonus miles for any eligible promotions.Thanks. So if I stayed at the Crowne plaza which was $120 USD per night ex GST, what is the formula?
Which airline do you wish to credit to?

The very short answer on whether to credit to airline miles over Priority club is....ok, interesting. a colleague of mine who credits to airline miles has a very low PC point balance, around 3000, whereas I've got around 90,000 (hotel points), and we have a similar stay record.

No....
Universal rule without exceptions?
No, by no means a universal rule, you would be mad to be a points collector when staying at ICs in Australia if you wish to credit to QF or DJ.
Can you explain why please?
In Australia you get 3 miles per AUD spent, that is a lot better than 1000 PC points which is equivalent to 200 Miles or a spend of $72.
But if I am a Plat with PC then for an AUD $100 spend I get (take AUD to USD at par) 1500 points ie 10 * 100 = 1000 + 50% for Plat staus. Converting those at 1 mile for 5 points = 300 miles.Which is the same as 3 miles per AUD. Plus if I am registered for miles then I dont get the bonuses - eg the bonus points for next stay etc ?
But that is a poor example because you won't get $100 nights to often at ICs if at all and of course it's on total spend including meals etc. If you are registered for miles, you only miss out on the stay x get x points, all the other bonus offers cater for miles and points components in most cases, but as always you need to check for each stay what makes sense.

Note that for IC properties outside USA, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, and Caribbean, you earn a flat 2000 PC points per stay, no matter how long the stay. So stay for a week and spend $5000 and you earn 2000 PC points. Thanks markis10 but I'm still a little confused. The $100 was just an example - the ratios are the same whether its $100 or $1000. Given that then why miss out on the "stay x get x" points? Am I missing something?

Isn't it 2000 points flat rate, plus status bonus? As NM says, its a flat per stay points awarded at ICs outside of the Americas, so no matter how much you spend or how long you stay you get 1000 pts + status bonuses, ...
