I see it as a way for Qantas to target a group of people they are hoping to attract into considering and/or purchasing memberships.

As someone within this age bracket, I would take up the offer and if pleased with the services would highly consider purchasing a membership..

I've already booked flights overseas for august so not sure i'm eligible for this anyway but we will see

Nope. And it never will. In spite of booking a QF flight. QF don’t actually fly to the destination (HIR).
Turns out it has to be on QF metal. A bit sneaky IMHO.

To be fair the Ts and Cs were pretty clear on this one... a qantas operated flight with a qantas flight number.

Why fly Qantas then?

The terms are clear! It's okay we all make rookie mistakes. Heck, just last week I flew on CX in a non-earning fare class when I could have paid $150 more on the MH codeshare and earned a lot of miles!
