Well both. :P

And on that ], why are we (PER) not getting a J/WP Club????? :(

next time you're in there have a good look at some BPs. a lot of those miners have hit plat now just from constant FIFOs.

i wish QF didn't pay FF points/SCs on mining contracts, it would make things a lot less congested for the rest of us. well apart from the aircraft of course...

And why is a FIFO mine worker any less deserving of the status than say an accountant, auditor, salesman or engineer? If they have earned the status by flying then they deserve the status benefits just like anyone else.

And given that most (if not all) would be Qlink in Y. 1400 SC's is a lot of flying. Assuming 40SC return that is 35 flights per year. I would want a free beer for that! :P

valid points, i think its mainly frustration on my part from always hitting a packed PER QP (full of people in shorts and thongs i might add). its one thing for a certain percentage of passengers per flight to be in the lounge, but when its everyone on a bunch of flights at the same time, then this dilutes the worth of the benefits for everyone else due to the overcrowding.

i don't think any frequent flyer junkie likes seeing a massive influx of golds and plats into the program, as it makes it more difficult for the non FIFO people to get rewards.

to clarify - its not the FIFO guys i am having a go at. it is hard work and i don't envy going up and down in B717s every week. its QF that i was talking about - they chase the mining contracts and happily throw in the freq flyer bennies to elevate them above the other contenders, but don't care how this affects capacity in the lounge or other effects.

(and yeah they are now planning on spending money on the terminal, so maybe it will change eventually, that bit has been ranted to death by all the PER members here)

Seriously though, if these guys are wearing thongs, then in my opionion they should not be permitted entry (shorts are not definitively an issue) - note that each individual manager QP manager has full discretion. From the QP Terms and Conditions:
10.7 Smart, casual dress standards apply at all times. Individual Qantas Club lounge managers will have discretion to alter these standards if circumstances warrant.

On the weekend I don't have an issue with wearing thongs (OK I'm guilty of it) ;)

I used to be a "slob" traveler.

Now I have evolved into smart (comfortable) attire.

Not sure why though. The only time I have been sat next to a good looking woman, she spilt her pre take off orange juice on me and some how made it my fault. That was a long 8 hours

that's funny... back in 06 i was on a LHR-SFO flight and wasn't happy as work had made me go WT+ instead of J. things improved on board, hot brazilian girl in next seat. plenty of drinking and flirting for a few hours, then she fell asleep on my shoulder. she woke up an hour before landing to use the on board phone to phone her boyfriend :(

Nice weather we are having today.

Anyone make use of the free Wireless today?

Not today, but last week I picked up my mail whilst waiting for my lift at Canberra airport. I had come in on a morning flight and was forced to move further and further along the footpath due to the rapidly growing taxi rank. Looking up I could see that I was directly below the QC.

"Hmmm....." I thought, "I wonder what the range is like?" As it turns out it's pretty good, though I doubt whether you are likely to see hoards of bludgers hanging about outside the terminal on a crisp spring morning.

Probably lots of more comfortable leakage around the traps since both Virgin and Qantas have free wireless. Does anyone know if a coat-hanger helps?

Cheers,

Andrew
