General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

Did anyone see any reports of the level of infections outside of Wuhan, in other China centres like Beijing, Shanghai etc? It seems odd that there was not much reported on this. Perhaps it is just a part of the CCP general secrecy.

About two weeks ago they 'reported' infections in Shanghai were 0.017 per thousand or something.

They had infections just they shut the city down hard.

As for countries that don't have it under control. Indonesia.
Only 90 reported deaths in Jakarta, 180 nationwide.
Yet burial stats for March in Jakarta were up at least 1400

Shanghai is one of the places I have been keeping a tally of - added in mid March about when the rebound started. Data from the Johns Hopkins dashboard.
China stopped entry by foreigners on 28 March

Unfortunate overzealous police officer, who was technically following the letter of the laws. But.

They are now reviewing the fine.

NSW Police and Health have said the driving lessons are education you can’t get at home so are fine.

Overall good publicity to stay at home, unfortunate harassment of a 17yo.

Berejiklian confirms: Easter Bunny can visit homes
Just in case there was any doubt, after similar proclamations were made by other states' leaders, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has confirmed the Easter Bunny is allowed to visit homes this weekend despite social distancing restrictions in place.
Answering a letter from Ollie (who suggested he could leave handwash out for the guest from outside his household), Ms Berejiklian said the Easter Bunny "will definitely be visiting this weekend".

Well if Gladys says the bunny is coming, I hope she plans to follow through as that mum may not be able to afford to buy or not be able to get out to buy the necessary choccos. Gladys will be in the poo.

The great L-plater debacle continues.

Just found an update from RACQ today that says Queensland L-platers can only drive if they're off to get essential services. This replaces an earlier advice which I didn't see. Who know for sure, the brief release refers to guidelines which I can't find on QPS or Mypolice Websites. The Queensland and Victorian orders both refer to attending an educational institution. It seems that Victoria takes the approach that a car driven by an L-plater is an educational institution, but Queensland doesn't.

the other big bugbear in Queensland is the interplay of the stay at home orders and the essential/restricted business orders. The Victorian guidelines above are pretty clear that travel to any shop that is permitted to trade is OK, but the queensland guidelines refer to travel for "essential goods and services" which are not the same thing as an "essential business" which is the term used in Qld that refers to a business that is allowed to trade.

Dalek roaming the streets, saying Self Isolate

I found that amusing, but also a bit chilling (having grown up with the Daleks when they were really evil)

I'm relying on our (Tas) Premier's over-arching advice to 'Just use common sense', so I happily went and got a trailer-load of mulch for the garden today. Supplied from local quarry, 1 guy on site, never more than one customer at a time, even when its 'busy'.

They invite people to use common sense - which leads to lots of people being out, which then allows them to introduce stage 4. Clever political strategy and people will play right in to it :(
