This is an Australian post and it quoted which QF Flight the pax came from. I didn’t post that part to protect the author and the information that she was paid to inspect and report on. But having read the news from the last couple of days, This could well be referring to the Swissotel in Pitt Street. There are residents and continuing hotel guests in that hotel, see todays’s SMH. I know the source and it is trustworthy, otherwise I would not of posted it.

I think with a post such as that you need to confirm which country it was actually in. And also whether it was an earlier hotel taking guests vs the new quarantine hotels that have now been set up in Australia. There have been many facebook type posts which are simply made up.

Personally I would be surprised if the quarantine hotels in Australia actually have any non-quarantine guests in them. Indeed the footage I have seen to date of Australian Quarantine Hotels have had police and the army in the lobby, outside the entrance and patrolling the corridors.

I would also be quite skeptical if in Australia that Quarantine Guests are actually exiting their rooms in any manner. There may of course be the occasional idiot who tries, but I would be surprised if this in Australia was not rare.

As with anything incomprehensible, it seems that it was not as straightforward as first presented. According to a follow up story in the Herald, their flight landed before the mandatory hotel quarantine directive came into effect. Apparently some of the party were told it would be OK to self-isolate at home (I.e travel onward) while others were told to quarantine. The decision was clarified that they would all need to quarantine but by that time many had already taken their morning connecting flight.

So the media reports that they are all being prosecuted are not true?

Maybe a better question is can the governments of various levels get the story straight. Perhaps, or perhaps not. The media reports are probably quite correct. There is no shortage of judgemental people basing outrage on scant evidence.

The CMO is backed by several deputies and a whole department, including Professor Paul Kelly who IS an expert in epidemiology (including transmissible disease ... flu ... spread):

Ditto for those thinking its just the PM maybe with the National Cabinet who are dreaming up all this stuff then making announcements. There is a myriad of people behind them, some experts in various fields, some generalists, but all doing their best in an unprecedented situation. Australia is not Italy, its not the USA and its not New Zealand. Its also not Sweden, that paragon of societies - they have an 'interesting' policy in place. The leaders won't get it all right - that's reserved for those with 2020 hindsight, sometimes on a daily basis, but, honestly, fair go.

I know we all have opinions, and that's a lot of what AFF is about, but I really wish the pointless carping would stop

Yes, I agree. And yes media were reporting what they were told by those who come out quickly and blame anybody before considering what may have happened. Possibly the three or however many levels of government were involved in innocently giving conflicting advice. It wouldn’t be surprisingly given the way things keep changing and how quickly they change, it’s hard for people to keep up with instructions at the moment. One could rely on both sides of the story but confected outrage is more fun. I don’t know what sort of prosecution could be proved that would be interesting to see. Persecution on the other hand is rife.

Yes, that case is a bit muddled, but if they were given instructions/ orders by a copper , or authorised person at the airport, and dis-obeyed that, then I guess they can, and i think should, be prosecuted.

And NSW was involved. Add a dash of media hype, maybe some frustration expressed from some, authorities completely frustrated with people not regarding their instructions, and you have a "story"

And now for a little light relief so to speak. Just spoke to a person in NYC who is making a face mask out of 'panty liners'. I got a full 5 min description of how this gets constructed, and it seems to be a 2 day job.

this is just typical of people. Thirty years of running a recruitment agency. People fall into three groups. 10% are wonderful and do everything right and are amazing human beings. 80% are fine - aren't really obstructive but sometimes do things wrong while trying to do their best. 10% are totally horrible, entitled, believe the world revolves around them and they know better than anyone else and their ability is usually inversely proportionate to their ego.
