Rumour is that the 12 remaining passengers stuck on the Artania ship in Fremantle port did not fly back to Germany were too fat to fly. No details to help with this rumour.......
Now,now cove on behalf of the slightly larger folk on here I must object.
The official line is that the 12 left on are too ill or frail to fly. Some of course may have their condition made worse by being of larger size.
I agree with Christian Porter we have an obligation to make as sure as possible that none of those 12 will die on the voyage back to Germany.
On the other hand I don't see why waiting in Fremantle until mid April that the Captain wants will help.Surely get them well quickly and home then as quickly as possible.

Not all those 12 passengers were super chunks so the rumour was incorrect. They were classed as medically unfit to fly to Germany.
I do hope the cruise ships stop picking Fremantle.

Hi all, I have not had time to check all the threads, but I cracked up laughing today when I heard on the radio that people in London can now see the Eiffel Tower due to the Corona-cessation of industry and thus clear air.

I rejoice in the sheer passion and exuberance of people, who have no actual concept of distances....

I hate to say it, but I must confess I am absolutely thriving in this Covid lockdown thing.

I know this is wrong to express, but really, the detail is delightful.

(1) far from "having kids home" being a nightmare, I actually really enjoy it.

(2) that restaurants and nightclubs are closed either does not affect me or it is something trivial.

(3) Each day we go out for a walk to a national park or beach - observing all the requirements - but these are suddenly pleasant as they are not chock full of tourists.

(4) many local suppliers are selling direct to the public where as they used to only send stuff to overseas or restaurants - everything from quality fish to lettuces. We are eating better than ever :)

(5) the local residential streets are full of people who suddenly are walking - for "exercise". This is a quiet area so everyone is on the same page and social interactions are actually enhanced by this whole thing.

(6) The sky seems bluer. the world seems healthier. Maybe it is just taking a different view, but just maybe all this lockdown thing is helping that broad notion of "the environment".

In any case, I for one am finding it hard not to enjoy this - so far.

I would have agreed with you on point 6, but the clouds here have come over (again), sooooooo.

Sadly not an option for mist of us in Victoria - we have to stay local - no driving to exercise :(

On ABC News just now

Good to see Border Force seizing outbound medical supplies - started today

As per the article, some of the products are dodgy - not all.

But my faith in the Chinese government (not the people!!) is very limited.

I used to work in alluvial gold mining - a difficult endeavour, due to the delicate balance of environment versus industry. In Ghana I witnessed the most horrific example of sheer resource rape and pillage - done by the Chinese government. They devastated much of the countryside, overriding weak national systems through sheer economic power. It took years before the local government found the way to oust them. That was a true education for me. The Chinese are intensely self-focussed. they will do anything that they can get away with to further their central well-being. I find it somewhat admirable to be nationalistic. But when it comes to literally destroying another small empoverished country to make a few bucks, I think, very distinctly and profoundly, that they do not have morals that many in the "west' would recognize.

The dogs are still trying to work out the - everyone is home, all day!

Given the extraordinary increase in people out walking for exercise here, many walking dogs, I think this is a social bonanza time for pooches :)

My GM's dog is a bit old and is over the family taking him for walks. Apparently when he sees/hears them pick up the leash, he hides.

Did you read about the dog that was taken to a vet because he stopped wagging his tail and he sprained his tail from wagging it so much.

Two little dogs over the road went berzerk barking after neighbours left for a day in Hobart.

Went on and on until I went over and did a little tummy scratching.

Maybe there's a message there for those loudly complaining about being cooped up :)

So the complaining hotel detainees need tummy rubs? :)

Vegas has closed down and instead of using all those hotels to house the homeless, they are painting squares on the road for them.

Now I understand that some hotels like the Bellagio might not be able to open their doors but there are a hell of a lot of off strip motels that could be used.

I had to reconfigure my beard to ensure an adequate seal when wearing a mask. I was a bit grumpy about it but few people have even noticed

Pan Pacific Perth has about 20 homeless people staying there to help lower the risk of them catching COVID-19 as well as providing them with shelter. As I understand it's just a trial at this stage but it's still good to see.

Just visited my GP for flu shot. Phone from car outside. Met at door by nurse, takes temperature via ear. Clear.

Inside, workman busy erecting what I think we’ll be Perspex barrier for the receptionists.

Under 65’s flu shot, a quad, $16.50. Now waiting for 15 mins in my car for any reactions.
