General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

Driving my car tomorrow for the first time in about five weeks or so
Off to the vets for the dog . He needs a wellness check and his nails clippered as they are causing him distress. He normally has done very frequently by a groomer
Husband is home for Woolies home delivery
At the vets I have to go to the front door and there is a change over at the door with the specialists nurse. Not permitted within the general parts any more of the hospital

It certainly is starting to bite in the health sector. As I have said previously I used to get one job offer per week.During March it got to 2 offers per day.
Today I had 1 email that had 8 positions available.4 of them were for 6 months.Several hospitals that haven't previously advertised for locum physicians.

Every crisis has a few winners.....

This from David Pope sums up a lot IMO:

This guy Tomas Pueyo as written excellent articles.

This ABOUT the mess in the USA

In my previous post, I explained how direct deaths from a mitigation strategy in the US could range between 500,000 and over 10 million. As a quick back-of-the-envelope reminder, it’s the result of assuming the share of the US population that gets infected ranges between 40% and 75%, and the fatality rate ranges between 1% (currently 1.5% in South Korea, the country with some of the best testing and healthcare system) and 4%. That does not account for collateral damage (other people who die because they don’t have access to urgent healthcare), which could greatly increase the death rate

I'm still waiting on my order I made last Wednesday night.

Oh wow! I didn't order online - was lucky to grab from my local Foodland today doing my weekly shop as they were stocking the shelves. Bought this one and a gel also made here in SA "Uniquely Natural".

Just got our first Woolworths order and delivery from Michael Hall wines.

Woolworths were asked to deliver to front door and ring the bell.

Michael Hall delivery was leave next to office door in cart port.

Where do you think they were delivered to??

For some strange reason I caught a little of the NZ PM press conference yesterday .,.. I think it was in-between naps

Anyway a comment she said pricked an interest - basically about NZ businesses using Australia distributers and NZ mail / packing delivery services. Apparently this is not fair and creates an unlevel playing field - according to her.

IIRC this is the same PM that is demanding that Australia ignore the citizenship of a criminal when its comes to NZ criminals, and by the way, can you guys pick up the social security tab for the 700,000 kiwis currently living or stranded in Australia .

Can you believe it!

And now they've banned Australian owned banks paying dividends to head office!

Can you believe it.

I like to try and keep life as normal as possible, so given Mrs Flashback is working in my office upstairs and I'm working from the dining room table (albeit with a proper setup, now!) instead of walking up the stairs to chat, I send her a WhatsApp; just like I would if she was in the office. Works nicely ;)

Supermarkets here still nuts and delivery not an option really - earliest slot (if you can even get one) is 3 weeks from now.
