General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

Just a month ago New York had a single case - today 83,000.

Yes, we are doing things, but I think that notion that what is real today is indicative of tomorrow is plain wrong. There are two curves here - the curve of infection, and the curve of acknowledgement of the situation. ..

A month ago CV 19 was already in NY and the USA at large.

The USA failed dismally in their early testing program, and virtually all of the USA did very little to halt the spread of CV19 until quite recently.

They still have many states doing little to halt the spread.

By March 21 in the USA they had 25,000 reported cases of CV 19, but at had least 39,000 people already sick with CV 19.

Please open your eyes to what is happening EVERYWHERE. Don't be behind that second curve....

From your quote on the situation in NY I would believe that I have opened my eyes and have considered the available data in more depth than you have.

A month ago CV 19 was already rampant in NY

The USA failed dismally in their early testing program.

And how do you know we haven't? Seeing we have only been testing travellers? There are already remote outbreaks that have only just come to light here. You can say now with the awesome power of hindsight that "CV19 was already rampant in NY" a month ago. Why were you not letting them know that a month ago??

lovetravellingoz, I can no longer keep up with your posts that you amend after a few moments. editting, IMHO, is to correct typos, not to change posts in the face of other members questioning them...

I have watched now at least four edits to the last post of yours that I originally quoted in full in my post no. 1211. To be able to engage in debate it would be much easier if you just replied or added new opinions rather than changing old posts.

We have not only been testing travellers.

We have had a valid test from early on. The USA did not.

Australia has acted a lot more promptly and decisively than the USA.

This comment reflects poorly on you, and quite frankly is ridiculous. The link I posted was published on 1 st April and yes research is done in hindsight.

Your post was made today as was my comment. So you can answer your own question of "Why were you not letting them know that a month ago??"

You mean the link you added as an edit after I had commented on your post?? I think I will just retire and eat popcorn with Flashback... Good night :)

The other piece of new research that came to light today (it was an interview on TV and so do not have a link) is that Australian Researchers have confirmed that CV19 is natural in origin and has not been man made.

This was the conclusion after microscopic examination of the virus and the researchers concluded that none of the markers that would be present if it had been man made were there.

ie This puts to rest the conspiracy theories of it was made by the Chinese, or the Chinese version of it made by the USA and planted in China etc.

I hope you practiced Stay at home, and did not pop out for your pop corn ;)

She's always got plenty of stock........ nearly out though...... she'll have to suffer through! Fortunately the place we buy it from is a little corner store type shop, so likely to be undetected so should still have stock when we can eventually go ;)

Question for the group as I haven't seen it reported in the media.

For the ppl who have been infected, have any studies been done on their personal habits which may have contributed to them contracting the virus more easily? E.g. licking fingers before flipping thru papers or bank notes, frequently touching their face or surfaces like handrails, not washing hands after going to toilet or before eating, wear same clothes multiple times without washing, infrequent showering, frequent handshaking or hugging, etc.

It should put it to rest but people believe what they want to believe.
Maybe the Australian Researchers work for the Chinese

There were many early estimates of China’s real case rate being much higher than the numbers they were reporting. The numbers coming out of Italy, with less than 1/20 the population of China, and other places are another indicator of that. That said, report numbers are likely to be understated everywhere, just to hugely varying degrees. ‘1,000,000 cases” headlines only hours away.

It fascinates me the way the media fixate on these flaky global case numbers, like they are calling the score on a Kafka-esque football game.

Well hopefully they won’t stop paying rent due to lack of work :)

cheers skip
The advice to the UK Government by their Covid experts is that the Chinese cases are understated by 15-40 times. That is cases 1.2-3.2 million.

Even after covid-19 is over or contained, what are the chances that handshaking will be gone forever (in a business context)? I never liked shaking hands.

I still hear on a daily basis people so flippantly and callously saying things like “It’s only the elderly”
Just disgusting really and seeing stuff like that happen OS should only raise our alert level over here
