General COVID-19 Vaccine Discussion

Why are they allowing adults to remain unvaccinated?
Because we live in a democracy.

Move to a more undemocratic country if you wish for such.

Personally, I would have had a fourth shot by now except I had COVID just a month ago.

A democracy? LOL.

Why was there a push to vaccinate all adults and then that stopped?

Then a push to vaccinate all kids?

Why are we pushing vaccinations when they are not compulsory? Stop pushing the vaccinations because it's clear a certain percentage aren't interested.

And if I am not mistaken vaccination is not immunity against death. Just that you might not get serious complications from infection.

By the way you can still be a democracy and refuse to treat unvaccinated people suffering from Covid in hospital? Your choice you suffer. Cruel? No it's cruel not to follow what the majority are doing....

Interesting comment on the current RAT tests in the media that 4 out of 10 tests will show negative to the current COVID strains that are out there, much better to get a PCR test if unsure.

As per German Ministry of Health

1 reported severe reaction per 5,000 vaccine injections

As a 40 year old, who has had 3 jabs (Pfizer, Pfizer and Moderna in 2021), has had Covid (2022) with natural antibodies which last longer than a booster, no underlying health issues, l don't see the risk/reward of getting any more jabs especially as we have been told over and over again - "the more Covid mutates, it becomes more infectious and less severe". Each to their own l guess.

COVID becoming both more infectious and less severe as that could be the way out of the pandemic where as a society we end up treating COVID like the flu. However, it doesn’t necessarily follow that every new variant will be less severe than the previous one. It’s possible it could become more severe again.

I plan to have my fifth jab sometime later this year.

Friend of a friend, who is in the know, said TGA looks like approving Omicron specific Vax by end of year

Given im not eligible for a 4th dose until October due to having covid earlier this month, hope an updated formula is available then, seems pointless for healthy people to get more doses of a vaccine designedbto combat alpha.

I just had my 4th covid shot and I suspect become eligible for the next one 2 months from previous shot.

I had flu shot early May and I am paying to have another flu shot early August as the effectiveness is usually 3-6 months and I don't want to take any chances.

Treating covid like the flu is the worst thing we can possible do. Why? We have been managing the flu totally wrong.

If you're sick then stay home. Do not go out. Do not use public transport and pass your virus around. It's not "just the flu". Other people are entitled to some sort of protection. Other people can suffer badly from something that does not hurt you.

Our office has just given everyone opportunity to work from home for the next month. In my team 2 of 8 have covid and 2 others had it recently. The rest of the office have been getting covid on and off all year. Some of them getting covid again for 2nd time.

Oh and wear a mask.

…when an omicron specific is just around the corner. (YMMV)

I'm sure there will be another dominant strain by December 2022.
Viruses will keep mutating so another strain will emerge. BUT, the current strains don’t just disappear when a new one appears…AND it does not mean you won’t catch existing strains when a new one emerges

For example the Spanish flu strain is still around.

I just had my 4th shot. AZ,AZ,Mod,Mod. Looks like the chemist used 1 shot on one vial - so wasteful, as people are not exactly eager beaver anymore. No aspiration, as the helper was 'trained in Canberra' and no knowledge of why. Appalling, 2nd rate to Denmark, but needed is I must do a covid test before an anesthetic procedure - any specialist seems to have a 4 week wait plus. But I got in to investigate CRP >10. Again huge reluctance of garden variety GP's ordering sensitive bloodwork. If they find nothing(one dental cavity fixed) then the next is a 5 day fast to reset the immune system.

Do we have any updates on when Australia is gonna get the Omicron booster or do I need to sign up for a clinical trial to get it? Like hello, the UK has already approved it and will be rolling it out soon. What on earth are waiting for? Especially for immunocompromised patients like myself! That 4th dose is wearing off and I need better protection against Omicron!

The Jimmy Dore show is a comedy program so I wouldn't take what he says seriously. Indeed the name of his YouTube channel is TYTComedy

I reckon some are holding off for the Omicron booster. In addition, in most jurisdictions 2 doses is enough for almost anything. Also, I would argue that more than anything wearing a high quality N95 mask is as important if not more important than getting any booster. Even if you are fully vaccinated and boosted you can still get COVID. And yeah, you're right the vaccine will prevent it from getting real bad in all likelihood but do you really want to play Russian roulette with long COVID?

For context, the UK has now shut down the "NHS COVID-19 Vaccine Research Registry closing down - Next steps".

Some People will hold off for whatever hasn't been released yet. First it was Pfizer for over 60's. Then it was Moderna. Then it was Novavax. It's a never ending story of excuses.

Perhaps but i think if you are under 65 and healthy there is an argument for waiting for a 4th dose (2nd booster) which is an updated formula. Ive had 3 Pfizer and Covid, the initial doses did their job, Covid did not make me seriously ill, i now also have Omicron natural antibodies, will another dose of the alpha vaccine help when Alpha is no longer circulating?

Obviously if i was vulnerable i would get whatever is going, but im hoping for an update. We were told 4 months to tweak formula for new variants, like they do with flu vax but they are still pushing a formula that is 2 years old.

I can have my "fourth" next month. Will need to decide whether to have it then or wait for the updated formula. Though not being in the vulnerable age group they might reserve the new formula for others for a while before I can get it.

I'm over 75, haven't had COVID (that I know about) and traveling to Canada next month so decided it prudent to get the 4th dose last week (2xAZ, 2xPfizer). I do not think it will do me any harm. My doctor believes we may get a combined annual flu and latest variant Covid booster annually from sometime next year. I'll be happy with that.
