General COVID-19 Vaccine Discussion

Nineteen allergic reactions to COVID-19 vaccines have been reported across the country since the rollout began, but Australians are being reassured no evidence links the AstraZeneca vaccine to blood clots.

Four patients in Queensland reported suffering anaphylactic reactions after receiving the vaccine, but authorities are playing down the development

As far as I have heard, ALL the anaphylactic reacters had a history of anaphylactic reaction to flu type injections.

That's where there needs to be some sensible medical exemptions from vaccination requirements for travel. If people have severe allergies to things used in the vaccine and could get badly sick from vaccination then they should be given an exemption.

I have some allergies, but I doubt I'd have any related to the vaccine, so I'll be getting vaccinated when my turn comes.
Agree. I will be glad when my first vaccination is done and hope that the GP doesn't baulk at the fact that I 'naturally' develop dvts. If he did then I'd sure as heck want a medical exemption and there must be so many in this situation (not just anti vaxxers) who should be able to travel too.

I’ve just booked to have my first vaccination next Wednesday (1b category). I have never had a reaction to the influenza vaccination and am pretty healthy, so I think all will go well. I am actually more interested in having the vax for travel reasons than work reasons, so am fortunate.

Oh I hear ya there! TRAVEL (Although I've been doing some research about my medical conditions and think I'm very fortunate that I never got to test how well I would have been if I'd caught it. The GP did mention if I did get it I wouldn't get the chance to sit it out at home but would be an immediate hospital stay)

Geez Europe sounds like an absolute shambles currently. Thank goodness that we are producing AZ here
Third wave or is it fourth. Won’t vaccinate. Might stop export so others can’t vaccinate. Cot case.

Indeed. For all the criticism the government has received, I think that they are handling the vaccine rollout well. Having said that I would have liked there to have been more progress, but the blocking of overseas supplies does mean that it'll take a bit longer than it would have otherwise for them to ramp things up.

And now there are threats that the EU might restrict exports of Pzifer vaccines to the UK, even though they are above production targets. This creates a real risk of people who already have received their first dose get stranded.

As part of dealing with this, the UK is pausing first doses of both their vaccines to people under 50 to ensure sufficient supply.

Wasn't it only a couple of days ago that over a third of the EU nations have paused the AZ roll out over safety concerns.
“Italy’s medicines authority yesterday admitted the decision to stop using the Oxford-AstraZeneca was ‘political’, while in Germany, Angela Merkel’s closest allies hit out against the decision to suspend its use when cases were rocketing across the country.”

I have been using this to track the rollout and how it’s grown each week

Yes, number of jabs into arms.

It’s a shame there is minimal information on how many jabs/vials have been actually allocated/distributed (of course after testing relevant samples) to each jurisdiction.

Now with Astra Zeneca soon, it would also be nice to get that breakdown as well.

The pausing of the AZ vaccine continues.

Despite the evidence.

And some poms delighting in sticking the boot into the EU.Saying that is the EU system and laws that are the problem.

Yup. Which makes this action well, I did hear it being likened to an act of war.

The Europe that had (still has) COVID rampant, through several waves. The Europe who is preventing export of contracted vaccine. The Europe who is now suspending vaccinations (while at the same time preventing export). Oh, yes, this is the same Europe that likes to lecture Australia on various issues.

BREXIT is looking more sensible by the day.

And there are some here who continually bag the Australian government's various efforts. , sometimes comparing it unfavourably to Europe. 🤡

EU caught flat footed and are now trying to bully their way in to fixing problems of their own making. Part of the problem being, they continue to kick own goals along the way.

I like the institution but this is far from its finest day.

The whole irony though is that supply of vaccines is based on contracts that were put in place, with the UK sourcing some from EU; but vice versa the EU sources some from the UK. That's the way the cookie crumbles ..... would be nice to just switch over those contracts so we get supply locally, alas not the case. Also, the small drop in expected doses coming up soon was actually due to a bad batch (which is quite common actually). Don't let the media lead you astray.

The pushback in date is more to set expectations for those <50 and in fact as we've seen with the dates projected to date, it then allows them to smash those targets.
