Qatar bans stopovers or direct flights from much of Asia and ME, transits OK, but would expect aircraft loads to crash.

The temporary ban will also be applicable on people coming from Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria and Thailand.
(Had already put a ban on Italy)

Seattle's Museum of Flight closes, with no date for re-opening set (got this by email):

Conforming to guidelines set by King County and the State of Washington to minimize the spread of COVID-19, and in keeping with the community’s best interest, the Museum is joining other area attractions in temporarily closing its campus and the Museum’s Restoration Center and Reserve Collection, located on Paine Field in Everett, to the public after 5 p.m. today. No date for reopening has been set. Employees will have the option to telecommute during this period and the building will continue to stay open as a work place for employees who wish to work on site.

Visitors, educators and students are encouraged to check museumofflight.org for updated information and announcements, and to follow the Museum on social media as it will continue to engage with the public during the temporary physical closure. All tickets purchased prior to this closure will be honored at a later date.

The Museum will offer opportunities for virtual tours, social media and for otherwise engaging with the Museum during the closure.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Please visit the Museum's website at museumofflight.org for updates.

The governor of Washington had a press conference this morning, and banned gatherings of 250 or more people until the end of March.
I have a conference in Bellevue in May, and am part of the board of the society putting the conference on. Keeping a close eye on the deliberations of the Washington state/King County authorities!

Walmart is going to be like the wild west. Would hate to be venturing out to the shops in the US tonight.

I've been doing so on and off for the week and a half that I've been here, and to be honest I have not seen any significant change in behaviour. They are sold out of hand sanitizer in pretty much every CVS/Walgreens/Walmart, but from the perspective of panic, I am not seeing it anywhere near the levels of panic I saw in Australia (fights over bog roll and whatnot).

But Trump just did a speach to the nation/we're closing our borders announcement so its going to get crazy. I mean, we've had little old YaiYai's fighting at Wollies, can you imagine if they were armed.

I doubt it. I guess I'll find out tomorrow (it's almost 12am here EST) but I would expect selected border closures would comfort and not concern residents. There's been non-stop coverage of what's been happening in China and Italy, let alone local emergency declarations and the NY port authority head testing positive and none of these have caused even slight visible impact.

To give you some context, I'm currently in FL and heading to NY shortly. FL has been under a state of emergency for days now, as are 14 other states/municipalities. I bought some 70% isopropyl alcohol yesterday (no I did not hoard) and while paying for it the cashier remarked about the hand sanitizer being sold out and I told them about the run on supplies in Australia and they were shocked and bemused. If none of the above has set everybody off I am not sure Trump closing borders is going to be the catalyst that does so.

Ok, this is what it is possibly coming to : "

Amsterdam: Italian doctors say the coronavirus pandemic may mean patients over a certain age could be banned from intensive care units and left to die to give others a better chance of survival.

The advice – distributed by the Italian College of Anaesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care amid a rapidly escalating outbreak in Europe – warns of the difficult moral and ethical decisions facing doctors and nurses as COVID-19 spreads and overwhelms public hospitals".

This is the reality.

It's already true. If you are over 65 or under 65 with other complicating conditions it is unlikely you'll receive any care beyond oxygen. Resuscitation is off the table as is intubation, so the doctors say.

If people don't know SFO well it has an enormous homeless population. There are huge concerns that it is going to rip through this population (if it isn't already - the US just wouldn't know because they've just woken up) with awful consequences. I wonder what they are going to do for the huge number of their citizens that can't afford healthcare???

Don’t want to be named and shamed by Jenny Mikakos for turning up to my hospital job slightly unwell

If it makes you feel any better I suspect the unpopular Jenny Mikakos' future will be short after she keeps shrieking there is no issue having the GP go ahead.

It's almost guaranteed there will be transmissions at this event.

And then she will be asked to resign and we poor Victorians can stop listening to her awful advice.
