It seems weird and naive to me that the F1 was going ahead. It is confusing the general populus (IMHO) about what is ok and what isn't. Mass gatherings but wash your hands before during and after?

Interesting. Home of one of the first cases outside Wuhan and the first death outside China, but claiming only about 50 active cases, almost all of which were added this week. I'll add it to my list of countries with suspect numbers.

Cheers skip

That Coronavirus thread is catching up to the TOTT.

I think there is reason for that! That thread has become very one dimensional and completely less interesting. There must be a reason the owners of this site have shafted the thread placement right down to the bottom, and splintered the content. <redacted>

French President Macron made a big televised speech tonight ( carried on about 12 channels of the 40 that my hotel receives).

i could only follow the subtitle summary, but I gather he’s closing schools and universities, prioritising the elderly got help etc.

NHL season now suspended less than a month out from playoffs.
More soccer leagues in Europe have been suspended and Champions League games postponed

Disneyland closed until the end of the month
I was supporting a friend (in the US) yesterday who made the decision to cancel their Disney trip. It was her daughters birthday trip and she was getting so much negativity from people she was in tears and just felt like a coughty mum. She can change flights, ticket dates ect, shes out $250USD on accommodation but thats it. I told her that her daughter will love Disney even more next year (shes still very young).

Im glad Disney made the decision.

Im watching the Qld Country music festival this weekend, its a 2 day event - I had won 2 tickets, about $400 $700 and not going.

Edit, Holy cough, just found out the tickets are $350pp

Very mixed messages from various quarters of medicos and pollies on whether to attend big or even smaller events or not. I will not. :

“ Six new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Victoria, with one of the infected people attending the women's T20 Cricket World Cup final at the MCG and another the Golden Plains music festival.

The latest cases - all men aged between 30 and 70 - were announced on Thursday and bring the total number of Victorian cases to 27.

One of the men attended Sunday's MCG final, watching the game from level two of the members stand while infected, the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed.

More than 86,000 fans attended the final.”.

Has there been any case where someone has caught the virus from someone else on a plane? The scenario where someone tests positive a couple of days after arrival, airlines ask people in the few seats around them to be alert, and then one of those pops up positive?

Just had a guy in my office pick up the hand sanitizer bottle near me and started playing with it/trying to get people around him ect, hold it over their heads to squirt. Hes a man in his 50s btw.

Now hes offended by me by saying, "Come on, stop doing that. We dont know if your hands are clean to start handling things around the office that people need to use". I hurt his sensibilities in implying hes unclean. Maybe I should start saying sterile instead but no one is truly sterile

It's already true. If you are over 65 or under 65 with other complicating conditions it is unlikely you'll receive any care beyond oxygen. Resuscitation is off the table as is intubation, so the doctors say.

I'd assume they'll get painkillers as well as oxygen. Otherwise that sounds like what already happens every day in Australian aged care facilities when the medical staff decide it's time to put an old person into 'palliative care' when their medical conditions are deemed to be no longer readily manageable. It's way closer to euthanasia IMO than most people realise. Yes family should be consulted but what a choice that is to have to make :(

Sadly, the difference is that these people are not beyond saving with modern medical care. They are beyond saving because the resources of the healthcare system simply aren't there to save them. It's going to be a really rough month or two.

I guess I will hear some put downs because this is not "Official government or medical professional advice".. but it seems interesting and quite plausible reasoning

Coronavirus: Why You Must Act Now

I think the issue that has really jelled the world about this virus has been the cancellation for the moment of NBA. Reality check.

Its like hospitals filling up, people dying, scientists are saying ABC = meh then its "OMG, the NBA is cancelling and Disney is closed. This is serious guys!"
