General EV Discussion

The irony is that a CCP built Tesla would have significantly better resale value than my Fremont built Tesla. They didn't care much for the art of panel alignment in California. That said I don't plan on selling it anytime soon so I couldn't care less.
Yeah the output does depend on the company to a large degree, eg. CCP built Volvos also seem just as well made as the European ones. I suspect CCP companies have the same attitude to customers as CCP-anything, including airlines - the customer is the mark, there to be exploited, and any financial transaction with the customer is intended to be a defeat of that customer.

So, to be clear, just like the Holden and Ford drivers of old? :)
The fact that CCP manufacturers in this age can be that much worse than Folden of old is a pretty severe indictment upon said CCP manufacturers … !

Yeah people who buy CCP cars aren’t people who care about longevity, quality, resale, driving attributes or in fact anything that car buyers traditionally care about.
That's rubbish. The Volvo C40 (now EC40) we had was Chinese built and I'd bet most people would have no idea that it was/is. Fit, finish, quality excellent. Great driving attributes. Great resale.

Indeed, designed & engineered in Sweden.
And Teslas aren't too bad, at least for an American car.
There're signs that the Geely-engineered but Volvo (or Polestar) badged cars aren't near as good.
And the less said about BYD, MG & Great Wall the better (apologies if anyone is reading this while eating!).

With the occasional intervention of graft & corruption (not something the West is entirely immune to either - did someone say Boeing?), CCP factories build to whatever quality your budget can afford, assuming you do the engineering/design of course. But brands like BYD, MG & GWM know they're not marketing to someone who's exactly got Bentley in mind as their quality benchmark, they're selling "cheap" whitegoods that'll be disposed-of by the first owner pretty quickly, so that's what you get when you buy one (if you MUST have one & you don't care about appearance or drive-quality or comfort or any of that, in Straya you really should lease it; get the FBT exemption & then hand it back after a couple of years without having to pay for everything that's gonna go wrong).

Still captured under your broad stroke of 'CCP cars', no matter where they are designed.

Still, if something it true 98% of the time, you've got a 98% chance of being correct with a specific instance by claiming that true-thing.

It's done the round sof the usual anti-EV media.

Not mentioned.
Keith is 250km from Adelaide.
Keith has four supercharger stalls.

That queue was created by a Tesla Owners Club run over the Easter weekend from Adelaide to Keith, hence a lot of vehicles arrived at once.

There's no point even responding to photos like that. Unless every charger in the country is seeing the same thing, who cares? It means that the 99.9% of drivers not at that particular location at that particular time are experiencing no issue at all. Same scenes are seen at petrol stations especially where they have attached McDonalds eateries etc during public holidays/school breaks.

Freeways get busy on weekdays, trains fill up during sporting events, pools get busy on hot days, supermarkets run out of food when people panic, and chargers fill up when a large proportion of EVs go to the same place at the same time. And?

How is that is a valid comparison at all especially when Bentley produces IIRC less than 20,000 cars a year worldwide?

British built cars, quality and reliability? Thats an oxymoron in some cases
.....

In any case, Tesla has dropped the price yesterday of the Model Y, such that every Model 3/Y even the Performance + a colour other than white option comes under the LCT limit for EV. A friend picked up his Model Y the day before the price drop. He was not eligible for any consideration.

It’s an extremely witty use of language rather than a comparison; it’s a reference to the fact that MG buyers don’t care how horribly cough their whitegoods purchases are and it’s illustrating the fact with an example of the highest quality as being the polar opposite.

Bentley’s actually been pretty good since VAG bought them, despite how dodgy VW & Audi themselves are.

Well, the original MGs were fantasy and rubbish remember. We used to love to challenge an MG owner to a timing run up and down Mt Cootha vs a Peugeot 403. No MG ever got within 10 minutes of our times.

Yes, the CCP company chose the brand they purchased wisely; extremely well known brand-name, and yet it almost wouldn’t matter HOW bad the junk they churned-out was, it’d never be as bad as the original. :)

Wow…I had a very long marriage to a 403b, loved it to bits.
Upgraded to a 404 wagon but the magic was gone

I guess you must own a Bentley, or you must be in the MG camp - because unless you own a Bentley you cannot possibly appreciate quality 🤣

My father used to say that Bentleys were the middle class version of the Rolls Royce produced for the nouveau riche so as to not devalue the RR brand by having people with actual chins driving them around. My father was quite the character...
