General EV Discussion

I guess you must own a Bentley, or you must be in the MG camp - because unless you own a Bentley you cannot possibly appreciate quality 🤣
I don’t know why you feel the need to be so combative about this.
VAG seem to have made it a mission to make Bentley a very high quality thing, and CCP companies have targeted their product at people who don’t care how low quality that product is.
These are just facts, there’s no need to feel hurt by them … ?

My father used to say that Bentleys were the middle class version of the Rolls Royce produced for the nouveau riche so as to not devalue the RR brand by having people with actual chins driving them around. My father was quite the character...
He was pretty accurate in the days when Rolls Royce and Bentley were rebadged versions of the same thing. The Rolls Royce version would be driven by The Driver, the Bentley version would be driven by the owner!

Bit of fun yesterday , driving along and bingo a cascade of warning lights , chimes and messages as most of the cars electronics switched off.
I assume /hope it is just an abs sensor but the light show every time I start up is… interesting

Bentley ownership. I'm assuming you have one as it appears to be the indicator of quality.
I own a Bentley as much as I own a Faberge egg or a suit that was hand-made by the most highly-regarded tailor in Florence ... however as something to use as a point of comparison, the quality of all three are well known & hence the comparison is understood by the vast majority of people (who’re gonna be reading a frequent-flyer forum :)).

What car? Often sudden random errors and lights are as a result of a failing 12V battery. If your 12V battery is old, I’d get it tested and/or just change it.

What car? VW Wolfsburg Touareg

a failing 12V battery.
The car is smarter than that, it would tell me if it was the battery.
Likely an abs sensor.
i bought a Vag reader when I bought the car and seem to have lost it !!
Will try my local euro garage first thing tomorrow and if they can't read the codes will face up to taking it to a dealer

It has basically turned everything off ,, traction control, parking brake , abs , side lights, eng autostop..and maybe more..
I discovered after buying it that the ross tech reader would only work with a windows computer.. how poor is that !!!
We r flying on friday so it can sit in the shed and contemplate it's fate until I get back.

I have 7P (MY14) Touareg.

It sounds like the battery - mine did similar when battery started failing - assorted weird warning lights but no warning light to say it was the battery…..all fixed when battery replaced.

On a Touareg, the battery isn’t cheap - but it’s almost certainly cheaper than chasing some other electrical gremlin so would certainly be where i’d start.

VW often do a battery test at major service - when was the last service and did they test it?

I’m interested to know the outcome.

So the battery after sitting for 24 hours is a bit low @12.15v and I am now wondering if it is indeed the culprit.
Mi_eg has hard wired traffic cameras that monitor 24/7 and takes snaps of folks walking past and anything else that amuses it.
It also sits in the garage most of its life and I have had a couple of instances of low battery warnings on start up.
I try to remember to leave it on trickle charge but tend to forget.
This is it's second battery and I suspect it is about 3 years old ; it is a humungous thing that requires front seat removal for access
I have finally found my Hex-net VCDS but need to buy a s/h windows laptop off marketplace to use it.
Apologies for clogging up this new age auto thread with the problems of clunky old ice's….

Thanks to @DeKa and @ docjames for the heads up, I will report back with the solution.

I did have a drive of a friend's new BYD Seal a few weeks ago. Was a nice ride. Wasn't sure about having to say "All praise the CCP" before I could press the start button though.

My Hyundai Tucson had the same symptoms until it just refused to display anything on the screens. Called RACQ and they replaced the battery and all good except I had to take to a dealer a few days later to reset some parameters.

I'm waiting for Brisbane Mini Garage to respond to a question about when the Countryman E will arrive for testing.

After being keen on the EX30 for ages, recent reviews are now showing just how small it is inside. We've gone and sat in the new Countryman (ICE version) and it is very similar in size to our Skoda, so for us goldilocks perfect.

Now we need to have a drive of the E version and then decide if we really want to spend the kind of money it is ($76k) on a L-Ion battery car when LFP seems more the way to go.

Good one @tgh

I’ve seen similar on family cars from Volvo to Merc, Peugeot, Ford and Hyundai. The common item has been random errors that pop up, but no error related to the battery. Replace the battery and the issues go away.
Let us know how you go.

Made a very impulsive purchase on Monday. Despite both of us saying we wouldn't ever help fund the evil Musk empire we bought a Model Y demo. Saving just under $20k v the Mini just made unquestionable economic sense.
