Re: Qantas Frequent flyer out of the stone age

Problem is most accountants see IT as a cost centre, not a business enabler... Furthermore slashed IT budgets gives an instant improvement on the bottom line, and yet the computers still all work the next day in the eye's of the accountants...

Yeah, the beancounters do see things that way.

BTW, that quote was from a CEO of a large retailer in the UK - which I though was interesting.

Re: General IT Project Discussion (split from Qantas Frequent flyer out of the stone

That's something that has been attempted in the company I work for. We are trying to move all 500 sites around the world onto one common platform, one site (more or less) at a time, with the intention of moving from 20 software/platform providers to 1.

BUT, each implementation project is expected to have a budget of about $3.20 (and woe betide you if you go over budget!), take no more than 2 hours to do, all the while having to fill in various Powerpoint presentations, questionaires and other templates.

But hey, I'm not bitter:p

You don't work for BHP do you? ;)
