General Medical issues thread

Wow - that was quick. Just had a call from a BA manager who is coming over to see me in the F lounge. (I dropped over some feedback to cust relations, which I was going to follow up with a call on Monday to confirm everything was in place).

Quite funny though, he just called me "I can't find you" "Oh, well I'm in T3 F lounge...." "Ah....! Let me send my colleague in T3 over then"

Non event really. She did at least warn me it's a bus gate!

When mrsdrron was travelling with her moon boot at LHR she was met at the plane by a wheelchair, transferred to a buggy with 3 other pax. Then had to wait 10 minutes to transfer to another buggy about 300 metres from Immigration. The other 3 pax got off and walked normally to immigration.Mrsdrron was taken to staff line and easily beat those 3.
So not always BA's fault.

Maybe too much golf: Medial epicondylitis
the bit on outside is the more common Lateral epicondylitis. Many with the lateral also then develop the medial.
Or too much elbow wrestling for armrest during status runs?
Oh. That doesn't sound too good.

Well done LHR! A bit late to pick me up from the plane but the guy went like the clappers and even delivered me right to the door of the bus just as it was about to pull off. What a nice chap. Same can't be said for the people who won't vacate the seats with the sign that speaks quite clearly.... It's interesting being on the other side, really gives you perspective.

Been an interesting experiment today. LHR absolutely killed BCN....

Let's see what the ankle feels like in the morning, first day wearing a shoe on it and seems a bit swollen so will see if it goes down overnight once I'm in my lay flat bed ;)

Flashback have you got any Biofreeze? It seems to speed up the healing. You get it in the US and Amazon has it.

Can't say I've heard of it! Depending on how the ankle feels/looks tomorrow I might decide whether the crutches go to South America or not. Decisions....

My son did his ankle in a footy match on the day of his 21st birthday party. A dash to casualty and lots of medicinal alcohol (not the rubbing kind) and he made his party. MrP and he were off to Sri Lanka the next week so one crutch was taken. I think it was left in Sri Lanka when they returned a week later. Pretty sure it was put to good use over there.

Next day verdict - ankle is a little bit sore but not swollen, I'm thinking it's more so the tendon damage that is causing that. I'm thinking I may abandon the crutches and just do short walks in the first bit while away (having the ability to raise and ice it if need be). Is that foolish? I think it'll be OK.... I may as well keep the airport assistance which will save having to rush between flights.

Flashback, I'm appalled at your treatment with airport assistance... I always thought people in wheelchairs were pushed to the front of the line (at least that's what I've always witnessed). Clearly BA thinks its being abused by some people to get through the airport faster! but when you have an express pass, surely they should express pass you through. Sheesh. What a PITA.

Maybe you can get the FAs to bring you some ice for it on the plane?

It isn't BA but the airport authorities who control what assistance you get through the airport. We actually found the BA staff very helpful in goading the airport staff into action.
Though naturally the very best place for assistance was NRT.The Japanese are priceless.

Get some tape/strapping. You might be able to get through the pain but one slight misstep and your stuffed. Strapping/tape might hold your ankle in place.

Any particular way to do it, or differs per person depending on the way it is injured?

Still quite sore today - thinking maybe it's still worth taking the crutches as at least the option is there. We're HLO anyway (not bad for 3 weeks!) so should be easy enough to get them around.

I found SIN great. My 2PNR flights were at the risk of a misconnect due to late arriving segment. An electric buggy was waiting for me at the gate - waited for another 2pax then zoomed me to transfer counter.

QF/OW must have seen my connections and proactively swung into action

I used a support bandage with mine and I found it was much more comfortable walking with it on than without. It was like a cylindrical tube - like a stocking I guess, but much firmer. I would think you could get from a pharmac_. less fiddly than strapping as you could just pull it on. I am now 7 weeks from my sprain and the ligament is still sore, so it takes a long time. You don't want to have to rush between flights and risk a fall or another sprain, so sensible to keep the assistance.

So an update on my crazy blood pressure (which reached 199/135 at one point). All tests have come back totally normal which is great. Doesn't seem to be any underlying problems, such as heart damage or valves, which is even better. So it's just genetic or a medical mystery or something. I am now on a low dose blood pressure pill, which seems to be controlling it really well and I feel great. Mr FM is making nasty comments about buying me one of those pill boxes to control my medication, but if one pill a day is necessary to make me feel like I do at the moment, I am happy with it :).

One pill a day? Meh. :p. I am on SIX!!! And I really am considering a pillbox :o. And that doesn't include the Omega 3 capsules and Vit D.
(BP, thyroxine, proton pump inhibitor  , blood 'thinner' and 2 Plaquenil (lupus).

I used to feel superior when an oldie would have multiple scripts to fill. Mmm. I just joined 'em. Karma is a biatch.
