General Medical issues thread

Sounds like really dumb advice.
Maybe but JohnK regularly uses antibiotics, so why not give him the option to improve his short term health at maybe the consequence of his long term health?

Essendon got bent over for peptides, while at the same time their Coach took peptides for the tanning effects.

JohnK is smart enough to make his own decisions.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record...
A broken record? The answer is not that simple. The simple stretching exercise I was given (yes single as I cannot handle more) has caused more discomfort.

Forget Pilates. I'm not putting my body through that. It will be torture.

And yes I was hoping for a quick miracle to ease the suffering. I'll continue with the simple stretching exercise I was given and hope it doesn't get worse. Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.

Who ever pushed me to go to physiotherapy, I thank you.

There is very little movement in my left leg/hip and obviously I've become used to it over the years. Explains the decline in my golf swing as I'm left handed and everything starts on the left side. Because of limited mobility on the left side, the right side tries to take over and assist but I've lost all the power that is generated by the left side.

Need to start working on the left leg/hip.
The Physiotherapist obviously diagnosed what is wrong after putting you through a full check.

I'm now not convinced the Physio was the right option.

My knee/upper leg are worse the past 2 days since seeing physio. I played golf on one leg both yesterday and today and very poorly at that. I'm in more pain. Less movement.

I don't want to run to physio for everything. I need to find a way to get my knee/upper leg strength back.
Things will always get a little worse before they get better...

A Physio will give you a strengthening program. Sounds like your activity is causing the issue not the treatment. But you can't be expecting an overnight miracle.

The Pilates will build strength too.
My thoughts exactly Milboo

Quick fixes are generally short term benefits. Start thinking long term (short term pain for long term gain). You want better movement in your left hip because that will help so many areas of your life, not just how far you hit the ball or your handicap.

Picked up a nasty cold somewhere, I'm starting to sound like a broken record, think it was warmer in Wales last week than currently here in Canberra.

Physio is not a one treatment fix.dont give up
My point exactly.

The physio will get 4 more visits this year and then another 5 visits early next year under the care plan.

Now what to do with the painful knee until next physio visit on 23 November. Wait for the swelling to come down and continue with the stretches and hopefully I can still play golf in Thailand next week?

Give your knee/leg/hip time to recover - thankfully you're not playing golf again until next week. Playing both weekend days probably didn't do it any good. Continue to do your stretches. Probably find that thing will be better by next week- or perhaps you'll have to hire a cart :o

Painful joints = need to keep moving it.
What’s the X-ray saying?

I know I need to keep moving my joints. I feel better when moving my joints. I want to keep moving my joints preferring to play golf over sitting down doing nothing.

Ultrasound and MRI on knee show no damage other than effusion. Will have to do left hip x-ray when I return from Thailand in 2 weeks. Previous x-rays on hips/pelvis did not reveal much.

Inflammation is not a nice condition to suffer.

Did the knee prob start suddenly?

Pretty much. Noticed it at golf a couple of weeks ago. Crouched down on green then struggled to push back up again. This happened a few times. Pain was really bad a few days later and took Prednisone.

Now different pain. Knee feels locked and hurts on the inside. Really only started hurting like this since physio on Thursday. And physio was working on muscle on the inside of the upper leg above knee and that is still very sore when I touch it.

Just sore with swelling or is it inflamed as wrll - red tender?

Look up Pseudogout
Interesting.

"The most common joint affected is the knee, but it can also involve the wrists, shoulders, hips, and/or ankles."

They could well be my symptoms but also need to add fingers and feet/toes.

The article discusses aggressive treatment of the inflammation but I've not found anything that works effectively. Naprosyn is Ok but most times it does not provide any relief, Nurofen generally useless inless combined with strong doses of codeine and even codeine is not always effective.

I think at some point I will need to look at cortizone injections straight into the joints that are giving most trouble. I've been trying to avoid cortezone due to it's bad side effects but may have little choice.

Wait and see what hip x-ray reveals.

I agree with quickstatus. To get the right treatment you need to have the correct diagnosis. So I would also suggest that the knee joint is aspirated and the fluid analysed.
