General Medical issues thread

I think only one type
Thanks but I’ve tried all the usuals. Trying to avoid going to the drs to get a script one. The dermatologist wrote cream instead of the normal shampoo they prescribe (clobex) and so the pharmac_ can’t give me the correct one as a result.

Grrr. Scalp psoriasis driving me batty. Does anyone have any ideas other than the following I’ve tried: elecon cortisone cream, clobex cream (the shampoo works reasonably well); the usual otc shampoos, coal tars etc. I can’t do the UV exposure due to sun issues plus location. I’m on treatment for lupus and APS if that makes any difference.
I used Betnovate cream years ago, and that got rid of it completely. Avoid all anti-dandruff shampoos - they made my then mild problem, into a very big problem.
Regards,
Renato

After many years or perfect skin, I've just been prescribed the same. I've started getting itchy inner elbows / behind the knees and my eyelids have gone really dry (and a little bit of my cheek); been given that to use for a week which will hopefully sort it out.

I'm wondering if it's the extra flying I'm doing (and the fact I probably don't rehydrate as much as I should...) that's caused it? Flying most weeks at the moment.

Re coal tar shampoos: it seems that they disappeared form the shelves because coal tar was thought to be carcingenic. This article
has a full account and also a list of what they consider the "best-formulated coal tar shampoos" - US-based, of coourse.

Great article and thank you. I’m trying to source some of the Scalp 18 online.

I can now move my left leg more and can cross my left leg with the left heel resting on the right knee unassisted. Still a lot of stiffness there but this will take time.

Ph

Physio will assist. Lots of people think physio is a waste of time but it is really beneficial

Wow, I wouldn't have thought that any sane person would think that! The boss isn't enjoying her physio sessions at the moment after her knee op, but there is no question as to whether she is doing the right thing or not.

I thought they were a waste of time but he is helping me get back my golf swing. He has asked me to bring him some video footage from golf tomorrow to try and work out why my body is collapsing during the golf swing.

Some dont do physio then come back and say not getting better and they want the surgeons to fix them.
Can usually predict who will fail and who wont.
That was a friend. It 'hurt' to follow the exercises prescribed by the physio for his knee replacement so I think he just had a bit of a half-hearted attempt. Had to go back for further manipulation but it is never going to be any good really IMO.
On the flip side, I am convinced a rather too vigorous physio exacerbated daughter's hip and as a result led to two lots of surgery.

I can understand the confusion between pain = stop and rest versus pain = keep on as it’s helping.

That would depend on the type of pain and the tolerance level.

I can handle most pain but when I'm struggling to move after exercise then it's definitely time to stop regardless of how much someone thinks it's helping me.

I'm the only judge. The first lot of exercises I was given were too painful. I was given a new set. And don't give me too many exercises. The attention span is short. Very short.
