General Medical issues thread

Well I'd go to the GP first, but I was almost crippled by foot pain from collapsed arches and it never occurred to me that anything could be done until my doctor sent me to a podiatrist. Getting orthotics changed my life, I was in so much pain, especially in the mornings, because my job involves a lot of standing. And most of the pain was in the heels of my feet.

Don't ignore that kind of pain anyway.
It's not about me ignoring the pain. It's about doctors/specialists not doing anything about the pain.

Both toes get quite sore. Gout? Some sort of arthritis? Feet swell and they swell quite badly. Some days socks are tight, some days shoes don't fit. Saw a cardiologist who prescribed lasix for the swelling but that was many years ago and now no longer on lasix.

For a long time I've had trouble standing on my feet during golf. It feels like a rod has been driven through my heels. That pain comes and goes just like the pain in my left heel the past few weeks. Trouble when walking but that's now gone too.

I mentioned I had 18 x-rays recently ordered by rheumatology. No sign of next appointment. I'm not sure if a podiatrist is the answer.

Sounds like plantar fasciitis.

Feet swelling is fluid retention. Pays to have the heart checked. Fluid retention will impact movement in feet too. Stop wearing socks with elastic in them and consider compression.

All I need is another inflammatory disease diagnosed. Medication is only temporary relief and no time to rest to see if it will get better.

Heart was fine many years ago and I'm assuming that is still the case as there are no new indications of heart issues.

The first thing to fix is the weight and that's the hardest.

It's not that hard. Main thing is to stop talking and sitting and start - and keep - doing...

There certainly shouldn't be so many obese people - and there wasn't in the past, so clearly it's something that's avoidable.

I love how life brings ever more surprises (usually at an inconvenient time).

I am now learning what Life is with an "ulner nerve entrapment". Smallest two fingers of right hand totally numb, almost complete loss of fine motor skills, and greatly diminished strength. I can almost not do the necessities of life, such as writing with a pen, or using a cigarette lighter :)

I have very dodgy finger joints - thanks Lupus - and totally freaked my brother out on Christmas Day. I got him to hold my fingers and then eventually I was able to bend them ( my joints don’t move properly anymore and sometimes they get stuck straight or bent). As I bent each joint he could feel the bones suddenly just click back with a jolt. Not pleasant.

Fluid retention is something that is not good for someone who has had a heart attack. It makes the heart have to work harder.
Yes use a medication to get rid of the fluid but see your cardiologist or physician /doctor first. Wearing circulation socks or compression stockings would help I think especially when flying or sitting for hours.

Sounds like a carpel tunnel release may be required. Had one about 6 years ago and immediate improvement in numbness.
Before that I had to sleep with hand under pillow to keep wrist straight.

Brother had a first diagnosis of carpal tunnel in his wrists but on further investigation it turned out to be rheumatoid arthritis. It is responding well to whatever medication the doctor put him on.

@juddles I also had an ulcer nerve entrapment. The same symptoms as you and while sleeping it always ached.
I originally thought carpel tunnel. I went to a neurosurgeon and had an operation in May (day surgery). I am happy to report that my symptoms are almost gone, it took a little while after the operation for the nerve to heal. I could not drive for 3 weeks and you must be careful with protecting the arm whilst healing.
I was told that the more you delay the operation the harder it is to get back to normal.

Treating the sleep apnoea would also have a significant impact.
Sleep apnoea is not a problem.

Waking up in the morning and not being able to close the right fist is a huge problem. Right wrist, arm and all fingers swollen badly this morning. Still swollen now but not as bad as this morning.

I've taken photos to show rheumatologist but think it's a waste of time anyway.
