How about swimming?
I can’t move my arms properly, so I just couldn’t swim. (We have an indoor pool so it would be easy. ). Just trying to put a top on over my head takes a long time :). I am trying to do some gentle stretching to get some movement back. It was getting a lot better, but this rain seems to have set me back. Seeing my GP in 10 days and then maybe some physio might help.

It’s just devastating - a few months ago I was hopping in and out of zodiacs and climbing glaciers and now I am struggling to pick a sock up off the floor. Quite angry actually :(.

Yes, it sounds like something has gone wrong very quickly for you to be so bad now. Hopefully the doctor can assist. It is very unlike you to be laid so low. :(

That sounds miserable. I did my arm just by extending it further than it should have with weight in it and couldn’t brush my hair or put a T-shirt on comfortably for a couple of days and that was bad enough. Picked up a paver and immediately knew I shouldn’t have so stopped for the day and grabbed the heat bags and nurofen. Was fine after a few days and then yesterday moved multiple pavers with no issue. Sometimes it’s just the simplest thing that triggers something. Maybe you are just having a flare and it will settle in a couple of weeks. Maybe even some steroi_s to get you through. Is it your daughter with the auto immune issue? My bad memory. But yours sounds like something systemic.

I’d try and get a therapeutic massage. I had one a couple of months ago, two actually from an Asian run clinic. Thai massage. I was almost in tears as they got to the problem areas but they knew where to zoom in on. The first massage gave me great relief but knew it wasn’t fixed so had a follow up one which was even worse but it fixed it.

hot showers and baths are good - massage sounds interesting.

It is getting better - just miserable today because I thought I was really making progress. When it first started, my knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers were bad and the muscles at the back of my thighs felt like they were on fire and the muscles in my arms were a mass of pain as well.

Now it is pretty much just shoulders and elbows and arm muscles, with the occasional twinge elsewhere so I am getting there. :)

Yes it is my daughter with the auto immune issues, but I am pretty sure this is Statin induced - started within 48 hours of starting Statins and eased off after I stopped. Of course there could be something underlying that the Statins exacerbated.

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Diabex XR 500 (metaformin hyrdrochloride 500mg).

Doctor has been saying she thinks wife is pre diabetic and has prescribed this. Wife is 51kg, BMI 20.2, fasting glucose 4.8 for recent blood test and the previous 10 months ago, so within normal range far as I can see. Wife is concerned she is taking too many tabs (lipitor and pariet).

pre diabetic and has prescribed this…

Amazing .. but surely there must be an underlying reason…otherwise...

Seems a bit odd. Can MrsRK ask as to why the dr thinks this is needed? What in the tests indicate pre-diabetes?

Agree. The Doctors response sounds a little odd given her statistics. Her sugar level I think is normal. Something else? She has high cholesterol if taking Lipitor and is on a reflux script. Lipitor is a statin.

The fasting glucose is not the only metric when evaluating a person's risk for diabetes. And there's evidence that intervention while still in the pre-diabetic state can have a huge influence on a patient's long-term morbidity.

So I wonder how pre diabetic is determined if sugar levels seem ok? My sugar level is higher than that and there’s never been a question I’m pre diabetic.

Do you think the symptoms are side effects of the statins you were prescribed? Have you stopped taking them? From my reading it seems it can take quite a while for some of the more serious ones (like muscle pain/weakness) to resolve once medication is discontinued.

Agree but wonder if a second opinion is warranted or at least a clear explanation of why the drug has been prescribed.

I am absolutely convinced they are a side effect - I wish I had done more reading, but I was a bit focused on mental confusion and didn’t take much notice of the rest :). Joint and muscle pain are noted side effects, although some researchers are still trying to maintain it is all in the mind.....

I took them for 9 days and it is now nearly 4 weeks since I stopped. It is definitely improving, but gosh so slow! I just want to be 100% before we go to New York, so we can race around with Master FM - don’t want to be his decrepit old mother :).

lipitor like other Statins can trigger type 2 Diabetes - perhaps the doctor is concerned about this?

Only took them for 9 days and have had all this trouble. Sounds awful. Hope things continue to improve.

I have a friend who is now on 9 different medications - some are treating the original issues and others are treating the side effects!
Yes, makes sense. The blood thinners I’m on makes it a potential for stomach bleeding issues if there’s any issues there and so I’m on the pump inhibitor tablets to keep everything ok there.
