General Medical issues thread

I used to do after hours GP call. But that was 1971-74.Got a big pay rise in 1974 so no need after that.

Cove's issue is not an ongoing health issue but a traveller issue. That is why travel doctors are helpful; they give you appropriate antibiotics and the information when travelling. Travel illness requires a completely different treatment approach.

These aren't "Travel Doctors" as I understand that term. I agree that the issue sounded as if it was well handled by the Dr who attended.
Travel Medicine is a subspecialty in itself.

The doctor was in the 30-35 range, very fit and pretty clever. I thought about trying to get Mrscove to an emergency room at a hospital but the mess in the taxi and the waiting area of the hospital would not have been pretty. Having been a heart patient I would not want to choke up an emergency room at a major hospital.
Waiting 6 hours ended up the best solution seeing it was a long weekend. The other thing I was glad about was we were not in a hotel room.
I think the doctor was a little older than cynicor who attends Perth AFF get togethers.
The gastro attack this violent reminded me of cruise liner stories of people getting so sick.

So 2 weeks since my ankle injury.I have been lucky as basically walking normally within 3 days but a setback with cellulitis.Antibiotics now finished.Slight swelling and pain only on dorsiflexion or lateral movement of foot.
but I am being a good boy and have an apt with my GP.Just in case.

True. I was more mixing up two different scenarios. Visiting a travel doctor before going away and getting their 'poo pack' (yep, they call it that) plus other preventives; and the second situation being away and just needing a quick fix for a messy situation.

It isn't a case of someone not putting the seat down after doing a pee when they are standing up, it was a case of not bothering to lift the seat before doing a pee, do I have to be anymore descriptive than this?
Not the first time I have seen this, some males are disgusting......
I understood what you said. Agreed it's not good to pee on a seat but what I don't understand is why any male would leave the seat down in a male toilet.

And I have also seen the cover down many times. Too busy to flush and lift cover and seat for next person?

The problem is there are people who have grown up with different bathroom habits and have not adjusted these habits to this environnent.

Mrscove got sick on Saturday night with a gastro bug in Sydney on this long weekend. I was very grateful that I could get a doctor to come to our place to get her a shot and some medication. Certainly glad we didn't try the 5 hour flight back to Perth on Sunday. Could have been more than a bit messy on the plane. Naturally I have been a tower of strength under the "in sickness and health" deal.
Surprisingly the doctor was free and the medication he carried saved me having to find an all night pharmac_. Apparently our medical group in Perth are subscribers to an Australia wide GP after hours service. That was wonderful news.
Thank you for coming Dr Tom. He even wrote the treatment in legible hand writing....wow!

Was it something she ate on Sat night?!...both of us were fine. Glad she's on the mend...we are currently at Lhr on route to Lisbon

Th reason that the seat and lid are down is hygiene. Lowering both before flushing greatly reduces the fountain of water spray, urine and faecal material that emanates from an unlidded loo when it is flushed. This is particularly important in an ensuite situation or in a bathroom which also houses the toilet, as some of this spray may land on personal items, such as a toothbrush. I hope you now understand why some males are just in the habit of lowering seat and lid before flushing, no-matter where they are, as it is a good practice.

'....apt with my GP.' Hope you can get in to see him if needed. Get well soon.

But why not raise the seat and lid when flush complete? Over the years I have seen way too many surprises I don't need to see.

WTF? I don't hang around that long as flushing is the last thing I do before exiting. Do you hang around and wait for the flushing to stop so you can raise the seat and lid?

Glad mrscove is on the mend.

Definitely best not to travel when unwell. I made that mistake once on a 7 hour segment. I was fine for the first half hour, then it was one of the worst 6 hour periods of my life.

Having just done 11 hours from GYE (and then 2.5 waiting for bags....) I resemble this remark. Worst 13.5 hours. Ever.

Ooh no, not want you want at all :(

Nope, wasn't a pleasant flight :(

The sprained ankle epidemic continues. Apparently Master FM has now sprained his ankle and it has been put in a splint. Seems a bit dramatic, but maybe it is standard in the US, or maybe it was badly sprained.

I think I can say my ankle is finally 100% healed - I can now flex my toes backwards, without pain - so approx 11 weeks.

Oh no! Glad to hear yours is on the mend though. Mine is still quite tender to touch, but swelling doesn't seem to be so much an issue now. Considering giving it a light run at hockey on Saturday...... has been 5 weeks since the original incident, so not sure if that's wise or not. Appointment with the GP when I'm back in London later this week to run through a few things anyway.

I used to wonder why people dropped towels on the floor behind the exit door in public toilets. I'm a bit slow, but now I reckon it is so that they can use a paper towel to open the door and then if the bin is not close enough, on to the floor it goes.

I've been known to almost do the splits for this exact reason i.e. the bin isn't close enough to the door! Challenging at best

WTF? I don't hang around that long as flushing is the last thing I do before exiting. Do you hang around and wait for the flushing to stop so you can raise the seat and lid?

I usually wait till it's flushed - mainly because so many times I walk into a loo and there's some nasty surprises waiting for me. I don't want to be that guy, so make sure it's left in a state I'd be happy to walk into.

kpc I don't think she got the bug from the Intercontinetal food as the rest of us were ok. Mrscove has now recovered and the cause was a mystery. Her last time gastro happened was over 40 years ago.

I don't understand why any male has to go into a cubicle to do a pee when there are plenty of urinals. I should have said in my earlier posts.

Leaving the lid up or down under ormal circumstances wasn't what I was talking about.

In some parts of Sardinia I noticed that the taps at the wash basin were operated by a foot pedal, Good idea!

Anyway, tooth is much better, can't believe it was probably this that was making me feel like cough for so long.

Actually, I do check to make sure all has gone. If a seat is down when I enter I also flush then too.

Ouch!

Mine was on Singapore Airlines (in Y), and the crew were absolutely fantastic. Phenomenal service. Can not commend them enough.

But it was still a very unpleasant experience.
