General Medical issues thread

Thanks. Yes something I am very much aware of. I have not had any issues at all in the 2.5yrs since open heart surgery, until yesterday. This is why i am putting it down to the effects of the concussion. MrsProzac called her work and said she wouldn't be in. It annoys her I won't call an ambulance when these things happen.
Given the assault I don’t think you should assume anything right now but get it checked out.

It is like opening Pandora's box sometimes.
Exactly. In the 18 months preceding the last op it was revolving hospital doors with 7 or 8 procedures in that 18 month period. Got to the stage where I could email my cardio and he'd phone back saying he'd booked the theatre for next day. Why email? Because it was quicker than trying to get past the gatekeepers on the phone.
I see the cardio for my annual next week so will mention it to him.

Update on Mum:
Surgery planned for this coming Monday. Though as of yesterday, the Ortho wasn't happy with the level of swelling she still has in her foot - he presses it, and it's not wrinkling yet. He cut into the cast to be able to check.

My baby cousin (:P) who will become an ortho has chimed in with his 2c on Mum's X-Rays and need for surgery. Alas, he works for NSWHealth, so has no say in it. Mum is happy with her doctor's recs (cousin suggested wrist surgery mightn't really be needed, Mum is happy with the idea of only having a cast on her wrist for 2wks post-surgery).

Mentioned the possibility of cancelling our trip to Mum last night; she told me not to. I'm hoping they'll keep her in rehab until we're back from our holiday, which will be 3 wks post-op. She's hoping she'll be out a week or so earlier than that.

She's still in good spirits, now in a 4-bed room, and informing me what happened to the other three patients and when they were expecting to leave hospital. I think they're all burns patients.

I went back to the dog park for the first time yesterday, I must say I was bit a more nervous than usual when some dogs were running towards me!

9 days passed now and my alertness improving every day. General swelling side of head now gone, just some localised swelling around the impact wound. Bruising has developed on my chest and arms where I did not realise I took blows. Thankfully no more heart issues.

Mum's surgery went well. Not sure how long it went for. She seemed to get an anaesthetist with a bit of personality (IME, it's about 50/50). She said they put "jungle juice" in her first shot, then put in beer, and shortly after that she was asleep. Next thing she knew was waking up in recovery with a moon boot on her right foot, and a bandage around her left wrist, plus assorted other tubes and so on. :)

All three of us visited her on Sunday night. My Teen was a bit concerned that I wasn't going to go up to hospital before their Grandma went into surgery. Grandma assured the Teen she didn't need me there. The Teen insisted that "10/10 would recommend" that I was there to calm Grandma before her surgery. 😂💜

A post-op/rehab doctor visited when we stopped by quickly yesterday afternoon, and assured both Mum and me that Mum wouldn't be sent home until she could safely manage by herself. I almost started crying, I guess it's been a low-level worry I've been blocking my conscious from thinking about. Hopefully, she'll be able to go home before we get back, but if she doesn't, I feel assured she'll be in good care.

Apologies as this is not medical. The 3 captured (4th one got away but they are going to use his phone to place him at the scene) have been charged with a affray. A large number of photos taken by half a dozen people tell the story. The stolen car was a high end Mercedes. It stopped and was abandoned because the youth who king hit me put unleaded into a tank marked diesel. Does that make this medical because of Darwin's theory?

So likely he stole the petrol too. Stealing of high end cars is happening in Adelaide too. A couple of weeks ago a woman with her young son chased them or similar - expensive car had been stolen. The son ended up being stabbed. Had to go to Childrens Hospital. Woman ended up having surgery. Presume she is out of hospital now. Why she chased them with her son, at 5am? 🤷‍♀️

Brisvegas is suffering an epidemic of youth crime, car theft is so common as to be almost unreportable.
Lots of chatter about lax judiciary but the jails are already full .
Genteel enlightened new age society cannot cope with the obvious solution so the problem will just escalate.

There were a couple of serious accidents shortly after your assault. He may have done his accomplices a favour

Many many years ago on coughet I made the mistake of going to help a friend out that was being attacked by some Thais. Needless to say my friend disappeared when I caused the distraction. His friend was an English guy married to a Malaysian woman. He had a company in Malaysia and this was a holiday home. One of the Thais wanted it, he owned the block next door. The English guy later found out that the attackers were Thai army and one had even gone through Sandhurst military college. So there was a bit of of a power play happening.

I remember being on my knees being held by the arms and being kneed in the head and neck. I was black and blue for a few days and had a headache, nothing broken, so easily could have been much worse.
My friend did come back with the house owner and some Thai police. The police were not interested as soon as they knew the main guy involved was Thai army.
My friend heard later from the owner of the house that he had gone inside the house and it had been ransacked. He grabbed anything of value they could find and went back to Malaysia and apparently never went back to coughet.

The letter from him that I saw later had the line that "it was better to lose one's second home, than it was to lose one's life."

I have always wondered why I wasn't killed, could have been done easily. I was very fit, and it was 40 years ago, I was running and swimming everyday. 10 years later I had a neck x-ray done and the doc was convinced I'd been in a serious car accident, which I hadn't.

Another person I worked with years ago in Denmark had a plate in his scull after being hit over the head with a chair. He had also gone to help some one that was being beat up.

Would I do it again? Dunno, depends on circumstances.

Lucky I got in early then @andye .

That is basically what the police told me, saying if I had not stopped them, and caused them to scatter, they would have stolen another car and because they had been drinking would likely had an accident that night, maybe killing someone. They also said I could have been stabbed but the result was the right one.

Saw my cardio today for my annual check. He agreed the heart issue was probably related to the assault. Fortunately the stress echo did not reveal anymore heart attacks.
