General Medical issues thread

Parking at hospitals can cost almost the same as at an airport.

Its a simple diversification of income stream.
The carpark operating rights is purchased by a carpark operator, who in return get to set a car parking fee for the duration of the lease.
The hospitals gets substantial but much needed income from the carparks via such contracts with the carpark operator.

While I can appreciate the business structure, it is my firm belief that the poor and sick should not have to pay for car parking.
It galls me that some of the lowest paid staff in the hospitals - nurses, hospital orderlies, and the chronically sick have to pay for parking.

Wife took daughter to hospital yesterday. They gave her some cough syrup. Not quite sure. Daughter crying and coughing. Wife is also sick.

Don't quite understand how hospital released nephew. Grand parents sick. Brother and wife sick. Aunt next door sick. Great grandma next door sick. And now wife and daughter sick.

Hospital has mentioned daughters condition is serious. Immune system still not quite developed. This is not good. I am not very happy with my wife's family.

Hospitals are for life and death situations. Not for issues that can be managed at home. Even if it is difficult to manage at home.

Thanks Quickstatus!

Daughter is now at hospital again. Her illness cannot be managed at home. Has to spend the night or maybe 2-3 nights until she gets better. Keeping my fingers crossed. Was looking at flights this morning to head over this afternoon for a few days but decided against it as I don't want to risk getting sick. The family has had it for around 2 weeks. These must be serious infections.

Wife not well. Not sure what she means. She has a cold as well but I'm thinking depression.

Life doesn't get any better. I am better off being a pessimist because hoping for better seriously disappoints each time.

It depends on the hospital, but staff parking can be quite reasonable. The last hospital I worked at, it was approximately 65c/hr and was salary packaged.

I think I need to be there too but for now have decided against going unless condition changes. I will be there in 10 days anyway.

Wife and daughter to go and stay hotel straight after this visit to hospital.

John it must be hard being so remote from your daughter and wife, I would have taken a lot of time away from work, but I know you can't always do the things you would like to do.

I hope everyone gets better soon and you can spend a lot of time with them both.

Having a child = risking getting sick.

If she's in hospital, it's serious. I know it's not as black and white for you, but I would not be able to stay away.

I wish it was that easy. A lot of things to consider. Not sure what I can do if I am there anyway. Also doctors don't talk to farangs.

And the other thing to consider. I am in Brisbane and passport is in Sydney. Don't book any flights with Virgin or else they won't let me connect via SYD to get passport. Qantas may let me otherwise I'd need to book a domestic return and an international return.

The other question if I go, how long do I stay or don't worry about planning that part. Just go and stay as long as needed and pay walk up rates for everything including airfares.

So yes a simple decision for you but not so easy for me. But if I knew I'd make a difference that'd be a different story.

Hope that being in hospital for a couple of days will help your daughter to get over her infection. It must be so stressful, not only for you to worry about your daughter but also your wife. Hopefully when you are all in Australia things will be able to settle down and your wife will have the support of your parents to help her.

Just an update stitches came out on Friday and no more problems accept a scare on my neck, will need to be more careful in the sun.
You accept a scare on your neck? I know it is auto correct and poor eyesight. ;)

Getting old is no fun but I guess its better than being dead.
Old age is terrible. I have shrunk ~5cms in the past few years. That sort of shrinkage is supposed to happen over a lifetime not a few years.

And other than losing consciousness we know very little about death. Must be time for a drink again? Are you in the city Wednesday or Thursday nights? If so give me a call.

A friend parked at Footscray Hospital for a family emergency for 12 hours and only paid ~$10. Funnily it has plenty of parking but staff keep choosing to park in surrounding streets. Oh well not in my street anymore!
