General Medical issues thread

I remember having to seek dermatology opinion years ago for daughter. Appointments booked 1 month ahead. By the time it came around the rash dissapeared.

Just like many medical consultations. The day of the consultation is the day you feel the best and asymptomatic.

Yep. Exactly like when you take your car in for service as you know it has a problem and then it disappears at the mechanics.

I remember years ago I had a bulging disc that was causing immense pain down my leg. Then after one really bad painful experience the pain disappeared somewhat. I thought that was typical, go see the neurologist but my back didn't hurt so much. Umm. Nope. The disc had ruptured (that was the searing pain I had felt earlier) so back felt better but had very little nerve function left in my leg. Surgery needed asap.

Well done QFWP.

BTW the attachements are invalid?

Was there a fee for cancelling appointment. Some specialists are charging it these days
When I go back into edit, sometimes they load properly. Might re-post them

No cancellation cost - told receptionist she had to be admitted to hospital. She was most concerned

I expect they look a bit jaundiced? Coag tests seem fine.
This was the second test that saw my diagnosis.

I also see they referenced treatment for antiphospholipid syndrome but which isn't an here for your relative.

Hmmm, patient has been given lunch, that includes sandwiches and custard (but the sticker on the sandwich says diabetic, but they aren't - perhaps that is interchangeable with "fat free"). Either the Surgeon has seen the results of the MRCP and there isn't going to be an op today, or there has been a major stuff up in catering.

That was one of the reasons I told them to rign their GP again as i didn't think hey'd make it to Wednesdays appointment with the Specialist (I wasn't the only one to think they were jaundiced and the bilirubin results agreed).

Yes that one had me diving for Mr Google

Oh c'mon QFWP re APS - I have already beaten you to that - you should have asked me :p. I now know everything there is to know about it, for a layman/patient. For your rellie the coag tests are fine which is good given the liver issue.

Hope catering got it right though....

It does have some utility if you already know what the "something" is and you want a general test to confirm the "something" is subsiding.

In other words - its highly sensitive but has no specificity.

But a non elevated CARP test is neither here or there - just totally CARP.

Some babies require WHO (warm humidified oxygen) or bubble CPAP (nasal ventilatory support) if severe.
The prognosis is very good.
Daughter managed to sleep last night and is slowly getting better.

Today wife has sent photo of daughter with what appears to be CPAP mask fitted. Daughter looks comfortable and not too stressed.

The other good news JohnK is this: your wife knows when to go to hospital with a sick child!
Wife cares about our daughter. My daughter adores her. I can see it in my daughters eyes everytime she is with her mother. And that's a good thing.

I just wish I was more pushy/bossy last week and made sure they went to hotel instead of going back to village. Didn't think this was going to happen. Can't relax with any decisions regarding daughters health. Need to be on top of things at all times.

Kids are tougher than you think. And reasonable exposure is how we gain immunity. You cannot keep your children from exposure to life's normal illnesses or you are on a highway to stress. Just take reasonable care and let it unfold. Gotta stop beating yourself up.

Please stop your self flagellating!. Things happen! Not a biggie!. Hindsight is always 20/20 vision.

Totally understand that kids will keep getting sick. Part of life.

But beating myself up because keep making the same silly mistakes. Yes hindsight is a fantastic thing but I should not have let my wife and daughter go back to a house where 6 people are seriously sick. I should know better. I expect better. But I got into the situation where I thought it was going to be ok.

So yes a harsh judge which explains why I never lived up to expectations. Is that the OCD or another syndrome? ;)

JohnK you are going to get totally wound up and second guessing your decisions, regretting them, self flagellation (great term that quick status) and before you know it your daughter will be all grown up.

Just try enjoy the ride rather than wondering if you got off at the wrong stop.

Cest la vie Pushka. Not easy to change a perfectionist with OCD. Dad is the same. Runs in family.

Trying to interpret Thaiglish regarding daughter. Doctor has just seen her. If she doesn't get better by tomorrow then they will have to give her something I don't quite understand.

If she improves they can leave hospital but must come back everyday for CPAP treatment. Doctor has told her it'd be much cheaper to stay in hotel. That I can understand seeing some of their previous bills.

Hmmm....
