General Medical issues thread

No.

My first one: Wouldn't open without some other thing on the iPhone. Pharmacist had to show me a 'work around'.

Then, I couldn't see how many repeats I had left. Next time I went in I got them to print it out, and now I have an A4 page stapled with my other scripts.

Back to paper from then on. Plus, I can photograph these when I go overseas to demonstrate prescription, if necessary.

Plus it was the damn eScript lot who had the data breach. They are one more organisation who I don't have to give my personal info to.
FWIW We use MedAdvisor - Home on iDevices. Accepts photo of printed scrips or escrips sent by doctor via SMS. Allows scripts for two of us. Shows repeats, drug information, reminders and days left etc. I use it with the same pharmac_ every time to make safetynet calc easier.

My app sends a sms link . A single click on the link (which is a link to an internet based server) show something like this. And everytime a repeat is filled a new link is sent which shows repeats remaining.

Easy enough to screenshot it. Since CrowdStrike I'm telling people to immediately take a screenshot as a backup.

I just get a text message. It's worked for multiple scripts.

Or they can have the paper script and either keep it at home, or with the pharmacist (I keep it at home as, although I do 90% of my chemist shopping with one pharmacist, i don't want to be tied to them).

Ah. yes, it was MedAdvisor that my original eScript (SMS) wanted to open up; said something like 'Can't find medAdvisor'. I didn't have it. i said "I don't want another app, I just want my prescription". They must have had people like me before, because she did something on my phone and there it was :)

If you use the same pharmacist, don't they keep count? Mine can tell me my progress in a few secs consulting their screen.

No more Drs handwriting

My Dr hasn't written a script in years. Entered into his computer and printed out. Also checks for flags against other prescribed medicines.

No need - see below.

Yes but the problem in the hospital context where the patient is waiting for a discharge script. The doctor could be on another floor and a E Script walks itself to the patients rather than sending someone to take the script to the patient.

You would be pleased to know that hospital don't have any facility to print a paper script.

Or a patient contacts you. They need a script but you are somewhere else . E-script solves that.

lol. If you don’t have it installed then it won’t work.:) try accessing your million CWB shares and see if they are installed.:) :)

It’s a nice easy app that I believe even Tasmanian users can operate.:)

Ah, OK, in hospital context. No matter to me - last time I was discharged, Saturday 1pm, the hospital pharmac_ had closed.

I just looked and I must have downloaded it before. Just remembered, it looked as though it ties you to the one pharmacist and while I usually go to just one, I didn't want to be tied to them. Or can you go anywhere with an eScript and MedAdvisor?

The pharmac_ at Adelaide Calvary Hospital won’t accept escripts
The hospital I work at:

The inpatient pharmac_ don't - need the hospital medical chart ticked for discharge script
Around the corner is the hospital pharmac_ open to general public and they do.

But both outlets are run by the same pharmac_ people. 🤦

Don’t know. Maybe read their website to see? I use the one pharmac_. But the escript itself in sms form can be taken anywhere.

Toilet = luxury private suite
Let me tell you. Having your own toilet/bathroom in a public hospital IS total luxury. I got shunted out of my private room for a prisoner. The shared bathroom for two wards of 8 mixed people was vomit worthy. I think the look on my face when I opened, then shut the door made the nursing staff guide me to a pristine, 'closed ward' bathroom. Had a shower then the Nurse Angel had changed all my sheets and made the bed. I think I hugged her. Or cried. I can't remember which.

And they get rid of ward clerks who can streamline all that.

Technology still does not exist where discharge planning can be streamlined.

One improvement is the EScript Apps on mobile phones. I tell patients to not use the hospital pharmac_ to get discharge scripts because the wait is terrible. Costs me $60/month for unlimited scripts
In my locum days I was part of a group in 3 different hospitals that streamlined discharge planning. Worked well apart from the attitudes of some staff specialists/ VMOs.
Basically changing an Interns work pattern by making a strong recommendation that the last functions of the day were to do a discharge summary and scripts for any patient that was likely to be discharged in the morning. One side benefit was that the intern was freed from interruptions during the morning rounds to do scripts so had time to do the previous end of the day jobs of writing request forms for tests the boss wanted.
And not surprisingly a few impressed GPs when their patient turned up with the discharge summary when they presented the day of discharge.

I've had long distance glasses for 12 years now. I need them for driving as things in front of me were blurry and also at golf as I struggled to focus on the golf ball in front of me. (Note drivers licence does not state glasses must be worn as I've passed eye test without glasses each time)

The past 2 days I've held glasses in my hand and I've been able to drive without glasses in the day time. Nothing is blurry and I can clearly see number plates at 10 metres. I'm not sure if I could see number plates with glasses further.

Not sure how long this will last but it's been good to have a rest from glasses.
