General Medical issues thread

Not sure what you have but if you are short sighted it improves as you get older.
MrsProzac's sight is deteriorating and I dare not send her into the kitchen to fetch anything as I have no idea what she might return with.

Appointment with haematologist went well, but I am now hooked up (in Genesiscare) for the infusion and nothing happening for past 1.5hrs. They tell me doc has returned to base (hospital) and has forgotten to sign off on the infusion drug. I have suggested I go home and return next week. I have an appiontment Monday for the immunoglobulin infusion (ivig) in any event.
Edit: Only had to wait another 15 minutes before they got the ok to start. The power of AFF. 🤣

I have had what is close to a miracle. For several years I have had back pain after walking about 1000 steps but after a 5-10 minute break OK to continue. The last 3 years right hip pain as well. For about 18 months the distance was down to about 6000 steps a day. Three months ago sudden severe back pain plus right sided sciatica which I now know was a compression fracture in L2. I was down to 1000 steps a day.
A week ago I was managing 4-6000 steps a day but significant pain. But in the last 4 days have been able to do 12000 steps a day with no back pain and just an aching of the right hip which doesn't stop me.
Hallelujah.

The other miraculous cure is to request a wheelchair when boarding a flight. Guaranteed to fix any mobility ailment when the aircraft lands.
If the pain returns I might try that approach.
Though on our last trip on JAL a gate agent approached us and asked if we needed pre boarding. We didn't take it up. The next flight was on SQ HND - SIN and once again we were asked. This time we accepted and were first on.

Not seeking medical advice. I'm practising my Google diagnostic skills.

- Wednesday midnight noticed high fever (cold/flu?)
- Thursday not well, mild abdominal pain
- Friday morning my ribs are sore with more abdominal pain (has to be cold/flu?) and fever but also going to pee more often
- Friday about 5:00pm went and laid on wife/daughters mattress for 10 minutes to talk to them and I could not get up. Severe lower back pain? Sciatica or some other nerves. Could not move. Very slow and deliberate shuffles. Uncomfortable next 6-7 hours. Panadeine Forte did not help that much
- Woke 1:30am to get ready for drive to OOL and flight to SYD. Just went and sat on toilet to pee as I could not stand and relax a few minutes. Wife knocked on door and had another pee but this one had sharp severe pain as pee coming out. When I got up noticed 2 drops of blood on seat and some blood in toilet bowl. My first thought was UTI or Urethritis again. While I was getting ready went to pee another 3 times in 10 minutes and still pain but don't notice any further blood
- Now on flight and lower back still sore, abdominal pain and some fever. Actually whole abdominal area very uncomfortable.

I have request for blood test/Urine form with me and will do one in a few hours. Left the KUB ultrasound form in Brisbane and I must get that done Monday morning.

I think thats the explanation for haematuria the past 3-4 weeks. Hopefully that's the end of it and I can return to normal.

I don't think it's normal for males to get a simple UTI though. At least that's what they told my son and he had to do tests to find out the cause. Women - yes.

Not yet more.

FFS. See a doctor. Not just see a doctor, but then do as they recommend. Who knows, you may even get better and no need to keep posting your never-ending troubles here. Worth a try, eh?

Have a game of golf. That's the panacea for your issues

Chancing the distance to the next petrol station when your tank is empty is (still) fun @JohnK . Doing this with multiple medical conditions is not. You are going to run out of petrol.

It's not a simple UTI. My guess it's either pyelonephritis or kidney/ureteral stone.

Blood test today, KUB ultrasound Monday and then see doctor from there.

Good to see all the notes of encouragement.

I've just seen doctor Wednesday. I'm following doctors orders of blood/urine test and KUB ultrasound to find out why micro haematuria in urine. There was no urgency placed on any of these these. Doctor said get them done by Monday. I'm not sure why people think I'm doing this all alone.

Because of your long history posting here saying you self-medicate and don't visit doctors - hence coming here for advice.

But if you are under doctor's help - good. Then I don't think we necessarily need to know your toileting results here.

Ok but the tone of your post suggested you thought otherwise. Done and dusted so to speak.

I tell patients to not use the hospital pharmac_ to get discharge scripts because the wait is terrible.
Apart from the wait for meds, is the cost at a hospital pharmac_ @Quickstatus and good on you for doing so.

When I challenged "St Elsewhere" pharmac_ on this, the response was "we don't get the foot traffic that sells all the other products like cosmetics and toothpaste "

Needless to say we now, if possible, have the conversation with Surgeon +/- GP beforehand to facilitate our scripts ie routine analgesics and antibiotics prescribed post-op.

Question to the doctors in this thread
My 2 year old (can’t believe she is now 2!) has had a small temperature of 37.5/37.8 for 5 weeks now.
Been going to the GP and she did:
Urine test
Poo test
Nose swab
All negative.
We are seeing the Paeditrician on Monday. Mainly due to me pushing for more answers.

Is this something to be concerned about?
Child is eating/ drinking/ sleeping/ playing all good.
If we give panadol then temp reduces to normal.
**What question should we ask the doc on Monday?
(It’s not teething)..
We’ve had this in the past elevated temp for 2-3 weeks, no symptoms and then back to normal. But now is 5 weeks.

Any rash, behaviour difference? Any grevillea growing round about? Lots of people are allergic to grevilliea and don't know it. Can cause elevated temps in children.

EDIT: Remember teachers used to say kids behaviour was wild on windy days. These days they say they are expressing themselves, but really it is reaction to airborne pollen.
Not advice. MasterProzac had a number of reactions to grevillea. He was tested and confirmed by an allergy specialist.

I’ll keep an eye out. Anything is possible. I would never have thought about it so thank you for the reply.

I'll tell you what we did to control the temp whenever it became elevated but please this is not advice. That should come from our established medicos.
When temp elevated we used child panadol. When really high a tepid bath to reduce core temperature. MasterProzac became febrile a number of times and once I had to resuscitate him age c.6. Scarey but your reactions and training kick in. Biggest problem we had was hospital paeditrician not accepting diagnosis. We pissed him off, don't need people like that confusing treatment. Fortunately we had a wonderful old school allergist(?)/dermatologist who correctly diagnosed him. Told us he treated alot of Parks people who had grevillea allergy.
I think we might also have treated him with phenergan...don't quote me on this, it was a long time ago. Pinetarsol in a bath to treat inflammed skin.

This might not be what your little one has but this is some background that might help you another time.

Moving some discussion of FIL's medical matters here rather than the Member Chit Chat.

FIL was let out of hospital on Thursday. Went to visit, along with both SILs on Saturday. MIL tells me she'd spoken to the cardiologist with my AFF suggestions (geriatrician, ACAT, etc). Cardiologist said that wasn't necessary yet. MIL is now saying we all overreacted a bit last week. I don't know if cardiologist has put the cataract surgery and MRI back on the table.

I don't know what else the cardiologist said, but after some googling to understand the scope of a geriatrician's work, so that I can then convey more than "they're doctors for old people" or something as blunt as that, it still seems a good idea to me to help establish a baseline of where FIL is at.

FIL has also been told to do more exercise, and I can see a physio or OT or exercise physiologist type person would be enormously helpful figuring out appropriate exercises around the house and yard. Hopefully we'll have some time together on Weds and I will find out more and try to be gentle (rather than too pushy) with suggestions for further medical advice.
