General Medical issues thread

I asked the other day about some bloods numbers but no-one jumped in. Here are some numbers if someone can explain if LDH is simply tied to low IgG number (5.6) and is the ongoing treatment why Protein is at low end of range and Albumin at higher end?

LDH 306 H U/L 120 - 250 HIGH
AST 27 U/L 10 - 40
ALT 28 U/L 5 - 40
Total Protein 65 g/L 64 - 83
Albumin 46 g/L 36 - 47
Globulin 19 L g/L 23 - 39 LOW

LDH usually reflects cell breakdown. It is commonly up in people with haem issues

The balance between albumin and globulin varies (added together to make total protein) in many illnesses though more commonly the other way round

I'm sorry I've lost track of what therapy you are on at present but a drug effect is most likely

Thank you @andye . I am on rituximab infusions for follicular lymphoma and IVIG for low igG. After IVIG hips, knees back aches for a day or two and I've noticed my heart is also very uncomfortable for 1-2 days after.

In for a penny... now I've been told the rituximab can exacerbate any skin cancer. I've done 2 rounds of flourouricil already and now have a deepish hole in middle of scalp that isn't healing. Waiting on results of biopsy which will probably indicate a low grade cancer. I am giving it another 2 weeks before a commence a 3rd course of chemo cream.

Biopsy a few weeks ago on left breast was all clear but still pretty bruised.
@andye You did ask. :)

Edit: How is the leg coming along?

Yes this was also a shock to me recently when I had my much delayed skin check to be told that my cladribine also exacerbates skin cancer and increases risk level. So much so my skin doc has moved me from 3 yearly checks to 6 monthly 😳

On Tuesday this week I hit 2 milestones.
First I got to 16000 steps a day just over a week after my back pain subsided. The most in a day for at least 3 months.
Second in the morning my weight was 79.3 Kg. In 1979 I got down to 12 stone 7lb which is 79.4 Kg. So 73'9 Kg is the lowest I have been since I was 17. It will be higher now as my sister has stayed with us since Tuesday and we have had 4 not too small restaurant meals.

More than I am doing @drron . Going away for a week Monday. Tried all my pants on, nothing fits. I'll be wearing shorts all week. Hope it is not too cold.

I have the opposite problem - between completely losing my appetite with RSV and not being able to eat the food in Mongolia for 2 weeks, I have lost about 4.5 kg and my pants are falling down! Sadly, I doubt that will last. :)

Sorry to hear. You'll get it back. I've put on 17kgs since diagnosed. I've got pants that are a good 8" short of doing up!

LDH will be due to ritux. Suspect the ivig is affecting your natural globulin result. Neither sounds worrying.

Big day on the leg front. Surgeon very pleased. Though I still have brace, I'm allowed 40 degrees movement 😀

Good luck with biopsy

I'm 2 months post. It doesn't last. 😂

I saw the Rheumatologist yesterday. She can't believe how RSV is impacting so badly on older people these days as this isn't the typical pattern of this virus. And she could see how it impacted me by the blood tests. She was more than surprised.

I know. 😞 But I'm enjoying it for the time being.

I was happy to lose it. I have plenty to spare. 😄
I was talking today with mother of my first g/f. She was 90 last April, the mother. Still is. She said she has lost 15kg since beginning of year. I said where from!!! She has never carried any weight.

Wow! That's a lot for someone her age to lose. I'd be worried.

Can you post about your Mongolia trip if you have time?
Not sure I'll have time - I'm off to Turkey and the 5 Stans on Monday week and I have loads to do.
I'll see what I can do. Maybe I can post some photos. (If I can choose a few from the 100s I took. :) )

Someone was asking at the market how you were going.
mmmm I wonder who. ;) Physio and surgeon are both very happy. I'm doing OK but not used to having to ask for help to do things which is really frustrating. Got to 6000 steps yesterday which was the best since surgery 7 weeks ago. Haven't had any alcohol because of painkillers but stopped all them now so almost ready to have a drink or two. I'll try and get in there in a couple of weeks

Good news andye 👍. After my check-up this morning, I've been moved to fortnightly check up. Final scabs debrided today and skin is growing nicely - not enough to not have a covering - I'm sure that even my family don't want to look at it. TCA added as usual to certain parts of the wound.

My operation was on 18 June. I hit 6,000 steps for the first time also 7 weeks later (3 August). But I haven't gone near it since, maybe today (I do the most steps on Tuesdays, walking to/from doctors rooms). We'll keep going in an upward trajectory.

Yesterday I got to just over 7000 but had a couple of medical appointments and then had to do a bit of shopping

Today I walked in the pool for 30 minutes and did quite a few exercises. Now I am completely stuffed 🤕
