General Medical issues thread

Though this doesn't seem to be wax at all, more like in the eustachian tube, feels like my head is underwater and seems to be worse when I move. I had a very bad cold before I went to Japan and suspect that this is as a result. Anyway am giving some decongestants a whirl to see if they help.

How are you feeling on the treatment RK?

Classic ear infection Dame. Off you go to the Doctors.

Was thinking of you today RogerK. Hope you are hanging in and good to see you posting.

I hope to attempt some wine tomorrow but will see how I feel. Right now pretty tired and uncomfortable and looking forward to sleeping in my own bed.

How are you feeling on the treatment RK?

Well, now 41 days in and there are some side effects. BP is elevated, mouth is a bit sore - tongue especially, mild cold-like symptoms, facial skin a bit drier and flaky, beard now white, food doesn't taste right, neither does wine. Some days feel a bit lethargic and feel absolutely dead tired by 4pm. Some days bowel has a life of its own, but involves me with stomach cramps etc.

But hey, I'm here and if this is as bad as the side effects get, I can live with them. I don't even have any pain (except the occasional few hours of stomach cramps and my normal arthritic pain. There are lots of people who are much worse off than me, like my neighbour across the road who has just spent 2 weeks in the hospice trying to sort his pain medication.

So that's it, for the moment, first CT scan since treatment commenced will be early January.

Am I the only AFFer currently with some living carcinomas inside them? Surely I'm not the only one?

Horrible last 24 hours for allergy suffers in Melbourne.

New theory that depression maybe linked to brain inflammation rather then serotonin levels.

In a study at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, doctors noticed that when patients with RA (caused when the immune system attacks the joints) were given precise anti-inflammatory drugs to calm down the immune system, their mood improved. Brain scans showed the volunteers weren't just feeling happier because their pain had improved. "The brain pathways involved in mediating depression were favourably changed in people who were given immune interventions," says Prof Iain McInnes, a consultant rheumatologist who ran the study.

Depression: does it originate in the immune system?

As someone who receives treatment to suppress my immune system, my mood has changed because I no longer feel like I am trudging through cement towing a truck. That is, I don't get so exhausted these days. I think there's a different explanation.

Many different explanations. I'm on immune suppresants long time. Depression is a different beast not easily conquered.

I have suffered some... intestinal issues  in the last week which have made me a little miserable and upset. Also a little vague. Hopefully this will resolve one way or another in the coming week.

Hope that the issues .... settle down. I hate that kind and mercifully seem to have a pretty cast iron digestive tract :)

I have hurt my lower back. To the point of barely being able to walk and can't bend forward. Managed to get to the doctor today and got Endone - never had it before and half way through second dose, got nauseous and threw up. Maxalon not helping. It's going to be a long night.

Not happy :(

Endone is rather strong to be handing out! From a GP?
Have you tried a wheat bag and ibuprofen with food? From someone who has had a laminectomy this always helps me.

Was once given Endone. Surprisingly little or no effect for me. Ibuprofen or codeine works better for me in certain situations.

Hillbilly heroi_. Endone had little effect on me as well after surgery. But I guess in some it floats their boat.
