General Medical issues thread

As Crohn's is also an auto-immune disorder (and I am a scientist) I was interested that you posted this. But I cannot see where there is any speaker covering topics closely related to my disorder. I may consider attending a few sessions myself if I can possibly learn something useful though.

EDIT: just realised I was looking at 2016 program for MEL. Get with it, brain! It's 2017 already!

The main area of the conference is Lupus and an offshoot is auto immune issues experienced by Lupus people. So ~40% of lupus people develop APS. The conference seems to be based around the Rheumatology speciality. It's systemic rather than specific organ focused. I've got multiple organs involved so systemic whereas originally in my twenties it was just thyroid.

There are over 80 autoimmune illnesses so I guess each one has their own Conference ahem, junket.

Tuesday and Wednesday are the days that interest me. APS discussed in both and my niece is speaking on the Wednesday. Her mum is looking for a 1 day shopping junket on Monday.

NOW,now Ms Pushka.Conferences are hard work.
I do find that those in the USA make you work harder so I generally choose them.
Only downside is you often have to take a very long journey on the way home.;)

Just a bit of an update on my condition.

After being on Votrient for 105 days I had a CT scan on Saturday and collected the results today.

Basically, the pulmonary metastastatic nodules have reduced in size by more than 50%. There is no effusion. There have been no other developments at any other site. Liver, spleen, pancreas and gallbladder are all normal. The right renal bed (where the kidney was removed) is clear and unchanged from the previous scan. There is no retroperitoneal or abdominal lymphadenopathy. :):):)

To say that I am pleased with this result so far is an understatement. I know I'm not out of the woods yet, but this is very encouraging. Keeping my fingers crossed for further mopping up.

On another note my big sis (78yo) fell over at her gym class today and cracked bones in her spine and wrist. However, apart from being in some pain she is ok, walking etc. She had an xray of her wrist and CT scan of spine and was told to have some bed rest, which I doubt she will do........

Thanx FB. I had always said to my sister that exercise was a dangerous pastime. :( I think she will be ok. The hosp gave her some panadeine forte so she probably just floated away. She has brittle bones having begun life in wartime Britain

Was just talking to my mother on the phone. Apparently my SIL has been diagnosed with an ocular melanoma. She didn't know much else except that SIL has had some form of treatment at Peter Mac in Melbourne and has to wait for a month to see if there has been any improvement. It couldn't really come at a worse time for them as they are waiting for surgery for brother's arthritic knees. He has put that on hold for the present till the find out what the situation will be for her, though both his knees are very painful.
