General Medical issues thread

Glad she is pain free at present and the knee not locking up. My father had 3 knees done (one twice as it disintegrated - he wasn't Jake the Peg). He was much older than MrsC so he ended up using a walking stick. Hopefully you will be able to do some travel before it gets worse?

On our front daughter has to have more hip surgery it seems to release the tendon as it keeps catching - she is not over impressed by the idea, though if it takes the pain away and allows her to move more freely she will be happy. It's been going on for months. Son is waiting for a hospital date for the removal of an adenoma from the salivary glands. The surgeon drew a diagram of the incision - will be from in front of the top of the ear to half way down the neck which doesn't sound pleasant. Given that the son has a mental illness we are playing this part down at present. To round out the trifecta my mother had a skin cancer off the top of her head last week with 8 stitches and has been pretty sore. Bringing up the rear (I forgot for a moment) my SIL seems to have lost the sight in her eye with the melanoma in her eye but luckily bone scans came back OK. Hopefully that will be the end of our health trials for a while.

Gosh - that is quite a list. Rotten news about the kids! Hope they can be done soon :(

Daughter has another month to wait (cortisone injection as last resort) then will see surgeon again, son's surgeon has said he will do him in the public system so no gap and that will be within 2 months (they think). I am hoping it is either before or after QM2.

Best wishes for everything. :o

Well, that's quite a list to keep you busy for a while l_t_l. Hope your luck changes soon on this front.

Yes definitely hope that will be the end of your bad run. Hope all procedures go well and your family members recover soon.

Ms FM now has an appointment with a Sydney specialist who is supposed to be really across Scleroderma. Her appointment is 3 days before her wedding, so I hope there is no bad news!

Yes, hopefully things will be OK.

On a positive note, our friend with the Stage 4 bowel cancer has had the stoma reversed and will be discharged to go home early next week. Don't think they are going to continue with chemo as he hasn't had a dose since early December and then went downhill from there - over 10 weeks in hospital. I think they have arranged palliative care for home (down the coast). They are very excited that he is able to go home now. We really thought he would not make Christmas; just goes to show!

wonderful to hear a better outcome - you just never know how things are going to go - everyone is different.

I noticed the Chemists are advertising the flu vaccine again. Outbreak of bird flu in China.

Beijing: As many as 79 people died from H7N9 bird flu in China last month, the Chinese government said, stoking worries that the spread of the virus this season could be the worst on record.
January's fatalities were up to four times higher than the same month in past years, and brought the total H7N9 death toll to 100 people since October, data from the National Health and Family Planning Commission showed late on Tuesday.

Have picked up another viral infection in flight or in Thailand. Extremely painful throat and back of tongue. Left lymph gland swollen and uncomfortable. Laryngitis? Pharyngitis?

Very early this year. Couldn't sleep last night. Not good.

Always good to hear that a family members breast screen found NAD. Roll on another 2 years.

Gee love_the_life, you've got a full book there. Better stay away from ladders until you go on QE2 with Pushka.

Sister has a eating disorder. So what does a GP prescribe her? Movicol... A laxative.

She has bones that shouldn't visible.

Very angry right now.

Anybody know what my options are?

Are you sure it's a disorder not another illness? And I think she needs specialist help.

She has multiple times, been extremely low weight. Habitual user of laxatives and a GP shopper.

TBH I think she needs to hospitalised. Just hard on a weekend to find the right help.

Best wishes. Coping with mental illness is so tough. For sufferer and their relatives.

Working a contract at a girls school which caters K-12 and have noticed years 5-6 very large percentage have glasses, and the other years glasses almost non-existence.
