General Medical issues thread

My right leg began playing up 7 hours after arriving back in Australia on Friday. Severe pain R buttock and hip radiating down the outside of the leg. Really hobbling for the first few day s. Slightly better today. definitely seems neurogenic and did come after not taking amitriptyline on Thursday night.
So last night being back at home i doubled my dose. Was able to sleep with very little pain when the nights before it was worse lying down. Fingers crossed as I might have to use my MIL's Zimmer frame and see a Neurosurgeon as I am known to have severe spinal canal stenosis at L3,4 on the right side.

So no issues if I get a covid booster "early"
Had my last one in late June last year. Technically not meant to get another one for 12 months.
If I went into a chemist tomorrow, they wouldn't have a problem?
Isn't it 6 months? I had last one in July last year and I'm getting one next week but I'm immunocompromised.

Had 2nd Shingrix vaccine yesterday, arm really heavy and sore last night but good as gold today.

Practice Nurse said free government stock supplies have been depleted and no idea when they can get more vaccines, we were fortunate to get their last two.
They have basically been saying this since before the age-free mandate last November. I think the government is ill prepared for this. Typical SOS

I know a dr in NL whose specialty is keyhole surgery under local to clear lumbar vertebral foramina. 20minute op and 2hr recovery. Amazing what can be done these days

I had my free flu vac at the chemist this morning . Quick and easy with the usual very nice pharmacist. Did Mr Black Duck at the same time so we didn't have to wait around. He always checks the jab record and so reminded us that our second Shingrix was due but no stock due to the shortage. He commented on the planning - ie tell everyone they should have a jab, put in too small an order and then give it free to lots of people so way to much demand. He also said that while the recommendation is 2nd jab between 2 and 6 months, research is showing it's just fine/better to wait longer. So hopefully stocks might turn up later.

Saw my travel doc today for travels for the rest of the year. He was my GP for 10 years before semi retiring a couple of years ago to do travel stuff only. So he knows me pretty well (I'm 64 and not exactly in perfect health).

I asked him about getting RSV vaccine. His response:

* Primarily for children but could be given to someone like me
* He hasn't had any experience in giving it, or in the practice any particular results
* Only about 50% effectiveness
* Expensive

He didn't recommend me getting it.

I'm in day oncology having IVIG. The sixty something woman in the next chair is coughing, straight out into the room where people are having chemo. I've had the curtain drawn.
Kick-off was scheduled at 0830. Driving to hospital the phone rings. Blood bank hasn't delivered on time, can I come at 1030 for 1100 instead? Can't say no, but I am thinking how badly I slept last night and I wish I'd known earlier and I could have had a sleep in. Turn the car around, go home and have another cuppa. Was tempted to grab an hour on bed but decided I might end up feeling worse.
Had a reaction to the IvIg, this is how the experts write IVIG ;). Felt like I had mites all over my neck. Stopped the infusion for 30 minutes whilst I had an antihistamine tab and a vial of something in the infusion. Settled another 30 minutes after that. First reaction I've had to anything so far. My haematologist turned up pretty smartly too. All under control and back to business. Will continue to have IvIg periodically through winter.

Anyone else treated with IvIg? Did you get headaches, how long?
Two mornings in a row I wake up like I've drunk too much.

Reinvigorating the subject of 💩....

South Australians should be proud of their 💩 and what a Bio Tech company is doing with it.
Special 💩donors send their donation to this company who processes it and then sells it at $6000 a pop.
Its a treatment called Faecal microbiome transplant. AKA 💩 transplant - its in a syringe and looks like liquid 💩 and is instilled via a colonoscopy
its even TGA approved for very specific indications. No kinky stuff here.

The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Perth also has similar. I call it PERfect 💩

Must be exceptional quality 💩 in PERth and Adelaide. No such facility in NSW. Maybe our 💩 is not as good. 🤣

Gah. This week, I’ve. had more steroi_ injected into me than a Chinese swimmer. Knuckle and great toe for arthritis & in the groin for a strained adductor tendon.

I went to my hernia surgeon because I thought something had flared up in that regard but he decided it wasn’t. thought it was a strained adductor muscle tendon attachment. So he pressed very hard 'right up there' asking does this hurt? F yes! Presses hard again. Does this hurt? F yes!!!! Presses hard yet again. Does this hurt? F yes!!!! ( lifting myself off the examination bench).

In this course of the discussion he revealed he knew that I’d been to another surgeon for a second opinion and follow up after my original hernia surgery that I thought was , let's say, 'sub optimally performed'.

Of course I’d never suggest he’d be so unprofessional as to perhaps press in one more time or a little bit harder than was strictly needed.
