Yep, found an entire shelf of Christmas baked goodies - not just mince pies

FFS. Its September!

There is Mother's day stuff at my local Woolies. :?: One branded product that I think has been forgotten.

Apparently the Xmas stuff is rolled out after Father's day. The Halloween cough is also out.

There was a story about Aldi sales being down in the last quarter which was a first for them. Odd as they just keep opening new stores.

Most of our fresh food purchases have gone to Costco. Woolies gets the rest (that isn't Aldi) because it's closest to home. Wish I'd sold my shares around $30. They were good for a while there. Wish I'd bought Wesfarmers at the same time I bought WOW too.

Yeah saw heaps of Halloween cough at Target. However the cough does get massively discounted after oct 31, which is useful for some purchases.

Costco looking at former masters site across.

"We're hoping to open one [store] in Marsden Park in Sydney next year, in July. And [the northern Melbourne suburb] Epping is probably going to be [20]18, I think. That's the horizon right now. There are a number of other opportunities around the country but those are the two that we have in the works."
Still, Mr Noone suggested Costco might pick up some of the land now up for grabs from the collapse of Masters. "I don't think there's any definites there yet," he said. "We're always interested in new sites but right now it's pretty confusing so I don't know how it's going to work out."
Costco set for record Australian sales

They are actually behind on their 2016 plan announced earlier this year according to the comments. The Marsden Park site and the Epping site were supposed to be open this year and they've been pushed out a couple of years.

As Costco open more stores in the major cities, some of the sales generated from new stores is in fact cannibalisation from the already established stores. This too is very much the case with Aldi.
Nonetheless, once Costco get to 20+ stores they will take a nice chunk of market share away from all the incumbents (including Aldi).

Now the real talk inside the supermarket industry is Lidl.
Apparently the Victorian State Government and Lidl have recently had discussions. So I strongly suspect that Lidl are indeed coming to Australia, despite the "will they or wont they" rumours that have been circulating.
Firstly, I suspect Lidl will focus on establishing their new operations in the USA market first before splashing some serious cash here in Australia.

Interesting times indeed ahead for the Australian retail industry.

Great news for Aussie Consumers, although the time is fast approaching for the incumbents to get ready for even more participants in the market , and some further squeezing of the profit margins. ;)
