General Virgin Australia Lounge Discussion

Does anyone know if the Melbourne lounges are open this week? I assume they are as I haven't read anything to suggest they aren't. Although few are flying at the moment.

This is the current state of the CNS lounge:

All the furniture is still there and the airport staff seemed to think it might open again soon, but weren’t sure when that might be.

I personally can’t understand why it isn’t open now.

Just checked in at VA in Adelaide and told the lounge is closed. First I knew of it! Not sure if Virgin have communicated the closure. I guess it makes sense with the reduction of flights, but would have been nice to know before I arrived at the airport. Did anyone get notification from VA about any lounge closures?

The lounges normally close for a week or two if there are lockdowns or other government restrictions. But since the lockdown in SA has ended, I would've thought the lounge would be reopened?

I can't see any mention on the VA website that the ADL lounge is currently closed.

Edit: Looks like there is a notice on the old website, under "locations".

Back in June when in Cairns, it was interesting to see that the lounge signage was still up upstairs where you enter the lounges.

Perhaps I'm being too optimistic about a reopening, it could just be the airport hasn't bothered to replace it with blank signage.

Interesting that "operational requirements" are now also listed as a reason for closure. Gives VA more wriggle room to delay opening. Reckon they might try and hold off reopening Melbourne until the newly upgraded lounge is ready.

And more flights reinstated with current border restrictions...

I transitted through Brisbane on my way to Darwin on Monday. Lounge was open but takeaway only. Minimal options. I was able to get a barista coffee and only food I think was pots of “fresh” fruit (did not taste good), banana or raspberry muffins, apples and regular toast but no toasties. Didn’t bother me too much on the way because I only had 30 mins until boarding but on the way back I have a few hours wait. Things could be worse I guess. At least I can grab a free coffee ☕😏

Thats the way its been in BNE everytime there is lockdown, and QF close their lounge all together.

Ohhh really. Makes sense I guess. This was my first time having that experience. I have to transit via Melbourne and Brisbane on my way home and Melbourne lounge is closed so at least I can still get a coffee and muffin in Brisbane lounge.

New MEL lounge has opened:
I know wonder about SYD, OOL and CBR.

I'd assume SYD has opened today as well and perhaps CBR but I guess OOL will remain shut until MEL/SYD flights resume?
