Because most people are idiots :)

I offered a current AMEX offer of spend $150 and get $30 back to some friends of mine who were buying a fridge at David Jones. They could have saved $300+ on the transaction. They declined.

Whoever are buying at Myer and DJ have more money than brains, that can explain why they declined.

Fridge was same price at David Jones as it was at Bing Lee. David Jones will often price match on these types of items.

What about tablets or surface tablets? Or even the no name brand TV's?

I don't think I've stepped foot in a David Jones in 20 yrs

DJs will price match most things so long as you are not trying to match against an imported Ebay BIN price.

I think Woolies gift card at 5% off plus 3 points per dollar on Amex Platinum Edge gets me a little more than a 10% value

I'm referring to buying dj gift cards from woollies when they have their 10% off or 10% bonus.. A Nd then using them at dj to price match am appliance or whatever

Just start with the entertainment book for 10% off DJs gift cards. I think you can still do that. I don’t bother with Australian department stores so it may have changed.

Oh I didn't know that:)

I've had so many friends say that they wish they could travel like us; I explain that they can if they play the points game. Of the dozen or so that I have taken time to explain the game, only one has picked up the ball (and then only on the third discussion".:(

Run of the mill yes. BUT they can be cheaper with some of their specials.

Plus sometimes when an item is the same price as elsewhere there may be sweeteners like x10 bonus points, Amex Casbacks etc which also sometimes can be stacked.

ie Grabbed my coffee machine on a deep special from Myers...and have just bought a bag for eldest daughter for Xmas (On sale, with further 40% flash sale reduction on the sale price, with Amex cashback plus bonus points all stacking making it cheaper than anywhere else).

I have a few friends in this category: they do nothing. Not only do they not believe how often I can travel, but the class (i.e., business) and type of rooms I stay in. Viva la points hacking!

I get the Coles ones from AFFers. Woolies one’s from RACWA using Amex Platinum Edge for 3 points per dollar. Each are 5% off.

The other main sources for WW are Entertainment Book (www.entertainmentbook.com.au) and Cashrewards (Cashrewards - Australia's No 1 Savings and Cashback Website)

I tend not to regularly buy Coles Group GCs as I haven't found a site where I can buy with Amex /get the Edge bonus. A 5% discount is arguably better than [3 Amex MR-MC/Visa rate] but for me isn't worth the hassle. Having said that, Coles often have offers where the activation fee is offset by bonus Flybuys-unfortunately they have limited the number you can buy of late

Long as it is, I'd highly recommend reading this whole thread. Though some info will have become outdated, I'd be surprised if you didnt feel it worthwhile in the long run

I buy my Coles ($200-$300) (Edit/Add: gift cards 5% off) with Only1 Visa cards I get from Woolworths on eGift cards bought via Entertainment Book / Plat Edge. Only1 only cost me $98.60 after activation costs :). So a consistent 5+% saving at both WW and Coles. It’s convoluted, but heh!

Can you explain the 5% saving at Coles?
Not being rude but don’t understand.

I get the buy discounted WOW gc and then in turn buy the only1 visa. But factoring in activation cost - there is a slight cost to this method. I only do this via cash rewards to enable a 3pt/$ non-Amex option.

Just missing how you are getting the 5% saving at Coles via this method.

Sorry if I have misread / misunderstood

5% off Coles cards are still available from a number of places, unions, AGL, Bupa. Others have mentioned in previous posts.

Sorry. Makes sense.

I read your initial post as, buy discounted wow GCs>to buy only1 visa gc>to use at Coles.

Hence my confusion!

Yes I believe so too.
However in my search. They have either not accepted Amex or had hefty charges.

Also using gift cards to buy gift cards don't work at Coles any more. (in my experience)
