Gift Cards at Supermarkets

yeah, check the ato creditcard thread, been blocked around 2-3wks ago.
a few people stuck with a few dozen in their hands

From what I read I think some have a lot, lot more than a few dozen :(

Looks like WOW may find they also may get stuck with stock now as two WOWs that I dropped into which are normally scarce for these cards were both bulging with them on their GC rack!

I’ve been putting them through DEFT site to prepay my Strata. Never thought I’d be excited to prepay my levies. 1.5% merchant fee on Visa debit for a large biller who can negotiate a better merchant rate still grates.

What Visa1 no longer pay ato?
Why was this not headline news on a newsletter?
So no ato bills at all?
What is the next best option for ato..... Just wear the credit card fee?
Other than everyday stuff and strata bills what's everyone using their stash of Visa1 for then?

Anyone spoken to visa1 about the number of rejections that are starting to happen?
I spent the $3 phone support fee a couple of weeks ago and called them about the ATO. They checked and told me that the ATO is "no longer in their network". Fortunately Deft and Stratamax still are (so far)...

Thank you for the update.

Soon enough there will be no complaints about the shelves being bare for these cards.

If this is the case then the gift card shelf will remain full and will return to the same as Coles stores hidden in the corner about the size of r2-d2…… Stupid Woolies move (I own the company) :(

I'd say with the new laws regarding gift-cards, woolworths may no longer see it as "profitable" because they were probably banking on people not using up their balances before expiry.
I will be taking a massive hit if I can no longer buy giftcards with giftcards.

It could be that you can't convert a Woolies eGift card to a physical Woolies gift card. Other types of gift card are still ok?

Other cards still work

Yep, i tried today to buy a caltex on egift and when that declined tried for a standard wish card and was declined also by the woolies system. Operator and manager were both surprised and hadn't received and ifo on this being rolled out. I haven't tried companies external to woolies but would imagine they would still be ok (jb hifi etc)
