Hi kkl,
This product cannot be reloaded. My understanding is that Coles have a reloadable product but it can't be loaded in store, needs to be reloaded online using direct debit from a savings account.
If this has changed, might be interested as a way of unloading value from all these gift cards into the one place to make spending it more convenient. My understanding was the reloadable product can load up to $10K upon proof of ID.
Which gift card should i be looking to buy? Using Amex Edge to purchase gift cards.
Card cost $5, for $100 card. Therefore paying 5% before any FB bonuses etc?
EDIT: Ive tried buying a 1K card online using Edge. Does not work with AMEX card. Asks for a valid card number.
My guess is that some people are liquidating their cards whether it be through PayPal, western union or whatever means. Let's say it costs $5 to liquidate a $100 card (rate charged by western union).
Westfarmers does these offers to get more sales. They track what is happening and make a commercial decision. Quite often there is value left on the prepaid cards that expires and they also make out of the time value of money with the bulk of purchasers not being as 'efficient' as some Affers.
By way of note - after the latest 2 offers for Flight Centre I noticed that their gcs dissappeared from all the Coles and WoWs I went looking for them once I noticed my normal 5 or 6 stores no longer carried them.
..and then on Friday I saw $200 FC gcs in our nearest Coles. Perhaps the high number of $100 FC gcs that were purchased prompted them to replace them with a higher value card. Who knows but the $50 and $100 cards are nowhere to be seen still.
Even if there are issues crediting the Flybuys points to our accounts (which I don't think there will be based on previous experience and promotions), I'm winning just by using the 3 MR per $ on bills that don't take AMEX (here's looking at you water supplier, council rates and health insurance).
But you are paying a 5% fee for those points as well as time value of money (as well as your own time).
