Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Have thread thru numerous pages of the thread. My understanding is to buy Coles Gift Prepaid mastercards and use them as a daily debit card with a reloadable value of up to 1K?

Please advise.

Thanks

Hi kkl,

This product cannot be reloaded. My understanding is that Coles have a reloadable product but it can't be loaded in store, needs to be reloaded online using direct debit from a savings account.

If this has changed, might be interested as a way of unloading value from all these gift cards into the one place to make spending it more convenient. My understanding was the reloadable product can load up to $10K upon proof of ID.

Edit: I've just gone to site out of curiosity and have got to the payment page and I can enter a credit card. Not sure if subsequent reloads can be done by credit card but certainly the initial load appears to be possible. If we can use our new GCs to load this card and then spend the $$ on this reloadable card, might be able to earn FB on the eventual spending of this money.

Interested in other members' experiences with loading this product before I commit.

Which gift card should i be looking to buy? Using Amex Edge to purchase gift cards.

Card cost $5, for $100 card. Therefore paying 5% before any FB bonuses etc?

EDIT: Ive tried buying a 1K card online using Edge. Does not work with AMEX card. Asks for a valid card number.

You needed to have received the targetted offer for 10k flybuys per coles prepaid giftcard to make this work

How you guys doing so far ? I nearly have about $8k worth. Should I keep going ?

we are doom if flybuys do not honor those 1,000 bonus points :-|

I've done $11K and only thing (apart from having to deal with lots of small transactions) stopping me from doing more is concern over whether FB might not honour the deal or amend future offers to the detriment of others. If they don't honour the deal, would be 1.67c/pts ($5/100/3pts) to 2.08c if used for ATO at 0.42% for instance. You'd want to be redeeming for pointy end flights.

My guess is that some people are liquidating their cards whether it be through PayPal, western union or whatever means. Let's say it costs $5 to liquidate a $100 card (rate charged by western union).

How does PayPal/Western union work? I looked at PayPal & didn't look like I could load up my account from CC - could use a CC as a funding source for a payment though.

I have reached $10700. Not likely to get more due to time constraints as my 2 local Coles have run out of $100 cards(courtesy to me). There are is Coles near work but will be a struggle to get away at lunch and will likely be too tired at the end of the day.

Westfarmers does these offers to get more sales. They track what is happening and make a commercial decision. Quite often there is value left on the prepaid cards that expires and they also make out of the time value of money with the bulk of purchasers not being as 'efficient' as some Affers.

By way of note - after the latest 2 offers for Flight Centre I noticed that their gcs dissappeared from all the Coles and WoWs I went looking for them once I noticed my normal 5 or 6 stores no longer carried them.

..and then on Friday I saw $200 FC gcs in our nearest Coles. Perhaps the high number of $100 FC gcs that were purchased prompted them to replace them with a higher value card. Who knows but the $50 and $100 cards are nowhere to be seen still.

I'm interested in hearing how quickly Flybuys pay up for the bonus points. Most Coles bonus points offers are paid within 48 hours of the transaction but this sounds like there are other parties involved in the promotion so it might be the full 4 weeks before they are paid.

If the points aren't credited there are lots of ways to chase up flybuys including an AFF flybuys rep.

The 4 weeks will be counted from the end promotion date which I believe is May 18.

My local Coles still has $50 and $100 cards, don't see any $200 though.

I'm not an assiduous keeper of receipts normally but for this offer I'm being careful

I was in Flemington Coles over the weekend and there were at least 200-300 $100 cards available. Most with 05/17 exp

Plenty of supply of 07/17 $100 GCs at Edgecliff NSW on Saturday. Bought 2 lots of $1k at self checkout then the lady who was approving them asked me to buy last batch at normal checkout and started talking about duty manager not being around. Won't be going back there I think.
I didn't participate in the eftpos offer. Did members of this thread invest as much in that offer as we appear to be doing with this offer?

Even if there are issues crediting the Flybuys points to our accounts (which I don't think there will be based on previous experience and promotions), I'm winning just by using the 3 MR per $ on bills that don't take AMEX (here's looking at you water supplier, council rates and health insurance).

But you are paying a 5% fee for those points as well as time value of money (as well as your own time).

I hit $12k today, with upcoming ato tax $35k. I am going to gamble it 50-50 with coles gift mastercard + WBC altitude black amex.

One more day to go. Stopped by Coles Wynyard & supply of $100s exhausted.
Coles Central had some hidden around the back of the stand. Bought an extra $2k as a last hurrah. Will find something to spend them on. Assuming this works. Will be a good MR haul for getting MR points at non Amex retailers.
