Global CrowdStrike IT outage impacting airports and more

Apparently a rookie error and something that is usually checked for
Malloc, calloc, realloc, faralloc, and free.
The five key words anyone working with C (or its children) really should understand like the back of their hand.

If it was something quite so rudimentary, I can't see the individual responsible being in their role after this.

I love all the comments from all the armchair experts who think that they could do better. I'm sure Crowdstrike will be worried that these "experts" will be competing with them soon and putting them out of business.

I'd be more concerned about anything that shot up out of nowhere in quick time as a "competitor".

The fact that this happened the way it did actually speaks pretty well for what must normally be done in terms of testing and quality assurance. (After all, most folk hadn't even heard of CrowdStrike until yesterday, I dare say)

Feels to me more like something got through the cracks with review / testing than there was/is no decent assurance process in place.

Amadeus or Sabre, accessed from a browser or terminal, running on the ubiquitous Windows based PC with CrowdStrike.
My company TA said that he could not make any new bookings or access the old ones. Luckily the booking system was back around 2000h. We had some travel planned for this weekend and then some changes too.

So our IT sent out instructions about an hour ago to self fix i.e. boot in safe mode and remove offending files BUT even after entering recovery key it returns to BSOD and doesn't safe boot. And yes I tried all options.

So my work laptop still a paperweight until I can get it rebuilt at some point next week. Also they forget staff accounts arent admin accounts, so even if it did safe boot most would not be able to get to the directory to delete the files.

Im resigning on Monday anyway, means I will have a nice excuse for a lazy exit.

All the best for whatever the next chapter in your life is!
Thanks not sure what that is yet, but Im completely over waking up and dreading dealing with certain people.

Life is to short to hate your job given the number of hours one has to spend doing it. My Dad is about to start cancer treatment so I want to spend some more time with him whilst trying to find something that is challenging bur involves far less of banging ones head against the wall.

Yeah I figure Im going to have to drop it off to IT for a complete rebuild, i.e. reinstall of windows and then all apps.

The question is how many others are going to rock up Monday needing the same?
Indeed my IT team have said people will need to schedule in a time to come in - could be days if not weeks for the whole company to get through it
